Princess Weekend 2022

EDIT: One question - How does the running tracking work? Will people get text alerts or do they actively have to refresh a screen to see what I’ve most recently passed? And how often does it update? I have a few people who want to follow along and a fiance who wants to know where he needs to be to spectate so I’m curious on what our game plan should be.
Agree with everything @Jsciv and @The Expert said...
However your question made me go check the "Runner tracking" button on the Spectators page of the guide, and it looks like it's been updated to at least take you to the future page to look yourself up for tracking, even if the page isn't live yet. It used to just bring you right back to the Spectators page on the guide. Progress!

Just a warning that sometimes the alerts are delayed. There were times during the marathon in January when we didn't get alerts from mat crossing for 20 or 30 minutes. So if you're trying to find or meet up with spectators, texting your location is far more reliable.

Well, I can't be expected to walk and chew gum at the same time, much less text someone while trying to keep on pace for a half marathon, so my spectators are getting the texts whenever Disney delivers them! :) :) :)

This is where runner tracking will be for Princess (link). The site will go live on Monday. From the MW thread, it appears the site removed tracking via phone number and only had email/twitter options. But a few posters pointed out you can enter a special code in the email section that will enable you to receive text updates.

Link (Att, T Mobile, Sprint)
Link (Verizon)

The HM traditionally has three runner midpoint tracking points. The start, 5k, 10k, 15k, and finish mark. Based on the MW 2022 results, it would appear these were the same for that race as well.

I'm assuming your fiance plans to try and see you in multiple places on course during the HM. Is that what you mean? Commonly, spectators of the HM do:

1) Main Street + Finish
2) TTC + Poly + Finish

I did a run through of options for someone in the MW thread here (link). Key points, it is about 0.5-0.6 miles from TTC to Poly. And it takes about 40-55 min to go from EPCOT monorail station to MK Main Street viewing (link).

Yep, He’s trying to do MS + Finish. He hasn’t been to Disney since he was a kid so I’m trying to give him a solid game plan to follow knowing I’ll hit MS in about an hour, and be crossing the finish (hopefully!) ~90 minutes later. This is helpful - thank you! Hoping character lines aren’t too bad (crossing fingers for s3) because even taking my time I would love to finish under 3 hours for future race qualifications in my area.

So how did everyone do in their pre-race goals, and how are you feeling about your race weekend goals?

How am I feeling? Like trash. Started off so well. Started early, even.

Then it was Thanksgiving, Nutcracker season (my son was Nutcracker and Prince and isn't licensed to drive, so I was at his beck and call), then xmas, then SNOW (I do not drive in snow, and especially not icy wet weird western Washington snow)...and then I got sick for a total of almost 3 weeks. And I'm getting an Accounting degree, so I spend every other free moment studying. So, yeah, trash.

I'm in for a world of hurt...and I'm doing the Challenge.

Oh and my body hates walking. Always has hated walking even as a kid. (I remember doing a sponsored walk for MD with my family and then not being able to move for a day afterwards when I was 12) But I can't even do my slow run right now. I'll be the one laugh-crying on the course. :)

My husband WALKS faster than I run......like so much faster. I'm going to bank on the energy of the day and hope it can keep me from being swept off the course!

My son is like that with me. Even at my fastest he'll just walk next to me as I do my run intervals.

I know we haven't seen the merch yet...but I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to the bib pickup Expo Thursday or Friday. I already pre-purchased something, though I can't recall what. Whatever bundle #1 is. Must be a magnet, pin and something else for $51. 100% forgot I did that the last time and never picked it up like a total ding dong.

My left IT band decided to be problematic out of the blue a few miles into my final long run, so I'm interested in getting taped at the expo unless the line is mega long. I'll have my husband and non-running friend in-tow , unless I can convince them to go to a park without me so I can poke around the expo at my own pace.

Convince them to go to a park. It's SO much easier without family at the expo. That way you can get in that line to be taped and not have to worry about their amusement levels. You can chat with other participants and have a nice time, as they have their own nice time. And then you get to talk about your different experiences!

If you're not interested in the rundisney merchandise, I'd go at opening on Friday. That way the tape line won't be too long and doing it Friday will mean it has a better chance of being in good shape for your event(s).

And pick up your prepurchased stuff!

Yep. Family thought I took myself out of the event when it didn't alert (at all) at the 5K marker for a Half. They were worried about me until the next timing mat.

@Jsciv It's worth telling family and friends that it is delayed and *might* not alert at all.

Bumber, my training has been terrible, as well. I'm planning on walking the 5k with my sister, running 2 miles/walking 2 miles for the duration of the 10k, and then for the half, running 5, walking 3, running 2, walking 2, and finishing the last 1.1 mile on a run. Maybe you can come up with something similar.

I literally just text the mile number.

I was kind of joking about the "walk and chew gum" thing, but I use progressive glasses, and I run in contacts, so texting while running (particularly in the dark) is an exercise in concentrating through blurry vision, which is the REAL reason I don't text and run at the same time. I've come close to tripping on things if I have to get my phone out and concentrate on it while I'm running. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure if I tell them "be at the finish line by 8am" they'll be there in time and the auto-texts will just be reminders. :)

If you run with a phone, then you can consider other non-Disney options. Ex: my DH uses Glympse when he goes out cycling. Also, if you have a Garmin, it also has live tracking. I would expect Apple does as well, but I'm an Android person.

For those doing yoga...

Do we think that "Yoga mat with carrying case will be provided for each participant at the event" means it's ours to keep, or just being loaned for the morning?

This is a luggage concern, not me feeling entitled. Well, maybe 1% entitled LOL. But 97% "which bag should I bring" and another 1% "oh gosh another yoga mat?" and then 1 more percent "ooh! Another yoga mat!"

I think there's a QR code in the event guide (unless

I assumed the bag & mat were included as swag. Could be wrong…it’s been a while since I looked at the original event details at sign up and I thought it was implied. If I can’t find a way to jam it in my luggage, it’ll be a carry on for the flight home. I could always use another one…one of my cats loves to burrow under my current one and pick at it.

Yeah, doesn't IOS for Apple have, like, "Find my Friends" or something that allows you to track people you're connected with in the app? I definitely seem to remember having friends that have used this to track people in races in the past. I've never used it so I'm not sure if it is still even available.

It certainly reads like it’s swag in the original event details. I kinda feel like Disney wouldn’t want to deal with the hassle of sanitizing and storing a bunch of used yoga mats.

Yes, Apple has that feature. I’ve never tried using it to have someone track me while running; I might have to have my grandma try it the next time I run outside, she‘d probably feel better if she knew she could check on me if needed.

LOL well my spectators are my parents (who I won't actually see until the finish line since they're coming in from out of town the night before) and while they're game to try technology sometimes, I think the pressure of learning to do that when I can just tell them "be in the Epcot parking lot by X time" and them getting texts (which doesn't require any new learning) means we'll probably skip the New Fangled Things for this one. :)

It's not like I can't stop for a moment and send a text or a phone call in extraordinary circumstances, to be fair.

Got busy yesterday and didn’t check the boards, so I’m a little late But here are the goals I set back when. Getting so excited for this race weekend!
My goals:
1. Complete my first challenge! I have never run races back to back days or even long training runs, for that matter. I am not worried about being able to physically finish the races as I will be on the back end of my race season and well trained. It's more that I have been debating a challenge for a while and this is my chance to actually do it! Shouldn’t be a problem. I actually inadvertently did this with the 5k/HM at the Aramco Half in January. And my current training plan has a 5-6 mile run most fridays before my long run on Saturday and it hasn’t been an issue.
2. Have a fun HM with my husband. He has started training and this will be his first race and HM in over 2 years. My husband finished his plan and is in good shape for a HM. We have a plan to at least stick together through the MK then reassess.
3. Enjoy our first adults only trip in over 2 years! YESSSS! We have a 13 y/o. This is so needed right now!
4. Run past the castle! I can't wait for this. I have run through or past all the other parks but never MK! Be there soon!
