PRINCESS Palooza 2011! 9/9 Update: Departure Day

I have also been working on a pattern for Merida for Katie. It's sort of a nightmare becuase she's too big for child patterns, too small for adult patterns. I just finished my second trial mock-up and think I'm good to go on the pattern FINALLY. I haven't even tackled the sleeve yet, but have thought it through and think I'm about ready to roll on that too. Can't wait to give it a go in fact!

I do think the dress in the movie is green, but teal on the version she wears in the parks. I looked high and low for some sort of velour, but went with panne velvet. I have 10 yards laying here waiting to be cut.

I LOVE the ice blue gown she wears in the movie, but probably won't do that one. I like to mimic the park version when I can.

I'm going with an organza for the ruffle edges on the gown. It might be a little itchy, but I'll do as much as I can to minimize that. It really is the only way to get the look I want.

You should do a "Dress Making Report" on this dress!! HAHA… Show us what really goes into making one of your amazing creations!

I agree, in the movie it is more green. :confused3 Like I said, the book has green, teal and dark blue shots, and those shots had to come from the movie!

And FINALLY a princess movie that doesn't involve falling in love! I mean, I'm all for falling in love, but I like this better for little girls!

I LOVE the light blue dress!!! I think it is SO pretty. Target has the dresses now, so I may have to get my girls one of those from there! My friend in MS is getting married the Saturday before Halloween and they are having a costume wedding! I think her daughter is going to be Merida as well- she has CRAZY brown curly hair.

I liked that it wasn't the normal, "I found my Prince" movie.

That's just what Kadence thought was sooo funny! That and when the old guy mooned someone!:lmao:

I'm glad we didn't go on opening weekend, I hate being crowded in with people. We just about had the theater to ourselves until just before the movie.

Ahh, teenage battles....I have a stubborn one, so some have been tense, but I'm more stubborn, so I won......so I think (I'd rather not know now)

I think I will have a harder time with Kadence, not that Sam isn't my baby, but I having a harder time with Kadence getting older. I think she grew again last week:sad1:

In all, we enjoyed the movie... plus it was air conditioned!! Our A/C has been fighting the hard battle and losing ground slowly. Relief is coming today!:thumbsup2

I don't feel good about the "I found my prince" themes either. But honestly, why does the alternative have to be the "all men are buffoons" movies? Why not something where an adult man and woman work together to solve the issue at hand? (Not necessarily here since it was about the mother/daughter relationship). I just find PC stuff VERY distasteful. And I think it's become very PC to have the woman do everything while the man stumbles around in the background. This isn't the example I want for my daughter either.

Oh, and why do they all have to get married as teenagers? :lmao: Sorry, had to just get that off my chest........

I think there are several of us here seeing that the battles will be much harder with our "babies". Of course, it doesn't help that the "babies" want to grow up even faster than the others just when we all want them to slow down.

And yeah....... Katie thought the mooning scenes were funny too. Isn't it amazing how universal that is! :rotfl:

Fingers crossed for your a/c. This is not a time to have issues with that. It's supposed to be 105 in KC today. I've lost track of how many days we've been over 100 already this year. It's making me really cranky. And it reminds me of the heat wave of 1980. I had my wisdom teeth extracted and my mom and dad had to borrow a window unit for my recovery. We didn't have A/C. That was one........ long......... summer.

LOL! No dressmaking report here. I don't even want to talk about it much because I want to reserve the option of ditching the whole thing!

I keep oggling that light blue dress at the Disney Store. Of course, it won't fit, and Katie won't wear it...... but I just love it.

I bet your daughter will look awesome as Merida! Be sure to post photos?

Just wanted to comment on how priceless the photos of the girls are after their makeovers. Especially like the one where your daughter is laughing.

OOH NO! :p No ditching the whole thing!!!!! We're already waiting with bated breath on that dress!! Okay… well, maybe just me… :wave2:

Of course, whenever I get the dress I will post pictures!! She will probably also have me braid her hair so it will be "Wild and curly" like Merida's! :thumbsup2

PC is gotten so far out of control, you can't say anything anymore! I went to a conference for work, and we were told we couldn't call oriental rice that anymore, it had to be changed to Asian. Huh? I didn't and still don't understand why?

All the movies with princess are now supposed to empower girls, let them know that they can do it anything, even better than men! Men are supposed to allow girls to walk over them because otherwise it's considered sexist!:sad2:
I don't want that for the future either.

Oh, and why do they all have to get married as teenagers? :lmao: Sorry, had to just get that off my chest........

Cuz after 25 you're an old maid!:rotfl2:

I just had a "please stop growing" moment today. Kadence tried on her Belle dress and it's too tight! Cindy doesn't fit, and Aurora is close enough to tight that she got mad. Well, I'm not happy either.

And yeah....... Katie thought the mooning scenes were funny too. Isn't it amazing how universal that is! :rotfl:

Yeah, John and Kadence are still laughing about that!

Well, we turned off our A/C today, Thursday it was the hottest day on record and with heat index it was like 115. Our house was 80 degrees with the air set at 70.

A small cool front cam through and today our high is 84, w/low humidity. Our unit needed a break. It's supposed to be 80 for the next 4 days, so we'll live for now with it off. I'm going to have the A/C guy come back and see what else is going on with it.

Thanks! I loved that shot of her laughing too. Sort of made the whole thing worthwhile. And actually one of my favorite shots from the trip. :)

I'm moving slowly along. So far so good. Hopefully no ditching will be required. I got the first sleeve section done and am happy so..... carefully moving forward........ fingers crossed.........

Oy vey...... that's pretty sad. PC makes me :crazy2:

Yeah..... not what I want for Katie either. I'm not a fan of modern day movies for the most part for this reason. I'm sick to death of the girls having to do all the work! And I'm sad that they are being told they have to be better than men at everything. That's gonna get old (and tiring) after a while.

Cuz after 25 you're an old maid!:rotfl2:

That's a risk I'm willing to let my daughter take! :lmao:

Really, outgrowing the princess dresses is sad...... but it souds like a great "buying opportunity" to me! :cool1:

OMG! I want your weather! It was well over 100 again here today. We're supposed to get some relief and be all the way down to 93 by Monday. Sorry, that's not relief in my book! McKenna and her family are heading up to Wisconsin for dance nationals next week, and I told her how nice and cool it is up there. She's very excited about that!

.

I know! It sort of changes the whole thing, don't you think! :rotfl2:

So how long until the wedding? I can't wait to see photos! :bride:

Our first trip to the BBB definitely WAS the best. Truly magical. :wizard: I wish they had it when she was really little though. She was 7 when we went for the first time.

August 25th so very soon :hyper:

I will be glad when my days off form work are actual days off and not filled with wedding stuff ::yes::

Glad I found your new trip report. Can't wait to see more pictures from your trip.

H! I'm glad you found us too! I haven't been over on the Disboutiquers thread lately but it's nice to see friends over here!

OK....... time to see what I've been working on all weekend..........

I still have to get the belt put together and I still haven't found a plaid accent, but the hard part is over! :cool1:

Well I can't say it any better than Kadence just did;

"She made it just like the movie!, Who gives her the directions so fast?!":rotfl2:

AWESOME!!!!!! So much better than that one on etsy.

Thanks Jen! I was really happy with how it turned out. So happy that I'm sitting here taking it apart....... Don't ask......... it's a sickness...... Just a tiny bit more "tweaking".......... I think that V cut in front is too big. Hopefully I can finish up tomorrow.

OMG. That is just perfect! I love it! You are doing great! I had no idea you were that far along with it!

I can't even find a smilie over there that expresses what I want to say! :scratchin It is really good!

Thanks! I've been moving along pretty well. I do that once I get a bee in my bonnet to do something. And I got lucky and the sleeves (where I expected the most trouble) went together on just as I envisioned on the first try. pixiedust:

You're crazy! :rotfl:

So I've heard.........

I told Kim that I need to try that Belle gown back on McKenna to see if I need to make a complete new one for her. It's he length I'm worried about. She said she'd be fine with it as a tea-length dress. I just laughed and said "have you MET me????????" :lmao: She's known me long enough I'm suprised she even suggested that!
