Princess Lunch at Akershus ????

I have a question about the lunch food at Akershus...I have read the menu on allearsnet, but would like some specifics. I am a vegetarian and was wondering what "specifically" they offer there. I have never eaten traditional Norwegian Food and am worried it might be a bit "too different" for me...if you know what I mean ! I am VERY interested in eating here (I am big kid who thinks Ariel is the coolest ..I want to see her in her dress!!).How are the "vegetarian options"?? Is there any beef item (he is not a lamb fan) for my carnivorous DBF?? What is Kjottkaker?? Does the restaurant have an odd smell?? Can anyone give me descriptions/exact menu items?? I would REALLY appreciate it!

We went last year to this and really enjoyed. This is written with the disclaimer that my kids are adventurous eaters -- they love calamari, olives, etc. None of these things were served there so don't get too excited. They seemed to have a good variety of things and the character interaction was really good. My DH ordered the Kjottkaker when we were there. It was described to us as a kind of meatloaf. He really enjoyed it while I had the salmon. Probably not for the picky eaters but we loved it!

We just ate there in July and thought it was not unusual foods at all. I cannot remember if there was a vegetarian option - but I am sure that they will work with you. The cold buffet was pretty normal - greens, cheeses (muenster and jarlsberg), pasta salad, turkey and ham, and a few traditional Norweigian items. My DH had the beef short ribs which were in a sweet bbq type sauce. Yummy! I had the chicken with pasta and veggies - I'll bet they can do the pasta and veggies with no chicken. My mom had the open faced salmon sandwich with the leek and jarlsberg cheese soup. Everything we had was excellent. If you look for my dining report on the dining review boards, there are pictures of our meal. It's titles Disney Dining at its Finest.

Scanne: Thanks for the info..I looked at your pics and the food does look pretty good (the pasta without the chicken sounds heavenly). I am having the HARDEST time deciding between CRT and Akershus Princess lunch. Trust me, if we had time for both I would do them in a heartbeat! The $$ isn't an issue cause this meal is being paid for by my bfs mom as a little "have fun on your vacation" present! I really love dining in the castle, but a character meal with Ariel is SO unique...I've met Cindy plently of times!!!!! Thanks again for your help, and I am sure I will find something for me to eat wherever I choose!
Does anyone else have any experiences they can share?? Maybe a comparison between CRT and Akershus lunch?

We did Akershus and loved it! THe cold buffet was excellent w/ meats and cheeses plus herring, kippers (yummy) salads ect..
DH had the lamb and I had the pasta and chicken. Kids had kids entrees.
We saw Ariel and posed for photos and had the opportunity to buy them later at lunch. GO.. you will like this especially if you have already done CRT.
Try something different!

If it were just me...I would go with Akershus, but I am taking along a WDW first timer, my DBF (boyfriend) of 4 years. I think it may be more romantic to eat inside the castle! I think it would be a nice thing for his first time to WDW. I have eaten at Akershus and CRT, but only for breakfast for both of them! I wish I had 2 stomachs...then we could eat at both!

If you are a vegetarian, you will be fine at Akershus. I had the pasta with creamy pesto and veggies (carrots, zucchini, green beans, etc) and it was fine (not great, but perfectly acceptable). The "appetizer" buffet has lots of vegetable salads, cheeses, breads, etc. for you to pick from.

The restaurant does not smell unusual or fishy at all.

I haven't eaten at CRT since the mid-eighties (back when it was King Stefans!), so can't help you with the comparisons there from a personal perspective, though I will tell you that my Dsis's MIL was just there and said that the food is awful now. It used to be one of her favorites, but whatever she had was basically inedible. (Dsis is on these boards too so I can ask her to post the details if you are interested).
