Princess Just Cancelled Cruises Through May

I'm looking forward to getting my April cruise refunded. It's sad cruising keeps getting pushed back, but the writing was already on the wall, especially given the sea change in Washington.
Love the pun of the "sea change."

Princess Cruise canceled all of it cruises worldwide through May 14, 2021. Could Disney and the others be next.....

I hope they tread very carefully with Princess and HAL. Those two - particularly, the former - have been nothing but reckless in the last few years.

Not just Princess, that was a Carnival Corp. announcement.
Certain of their brands, yes. Carnival the brand is a ship-by-ship decision, while Costa and AIDA are following their own timelines.

This is also the clearest sign yet of closing the 2021 books on Alaska. We might see the summer 2021 cruising season reduced to just the European sailings and shorter sailings out of Florida.

Can I ask why you think that means canceling the entire Alaska season? Genuinely curious since we are scheduled for September and I’m nervous about the idea of it going.

I think the theory is that the Wonder will not cross the canal since they already cancelled the Panama Canal cruise. The thought is that there will be no cruises on the west coast.

Someone brought it up but leisure travel to Canada is not allowed still so doubtful and cruises happen that need to port in Canada.

Princess operates the largest fleet of cruise ships in Alaska, which means they have to plan well ahead to reposition these ships. Cruise ships aren't being allowed in Canadian waters, and by cancelling everything till May, they are acknowledging they can't see any easy path to get these ships over and keep them parked.
The Alaska season is short. If a ship can't make it there before July, it's too late.

It will all depend on Canada and what they put in place, Currently they have banned Cruise Ships through March 31st but that ban is expected to extend, Also they currently they have a 14 mandatory quarantine people for anyone entering Canada that qualifies and that is not likely to be lifted anytime soon.
