I would like to expand your question. Is there anyone at the start or finish who will take our picture with our own camara? What about during the race or when we get our medal. I know a photographer will be there, but I want pics on my own camara too.
As best as I can, I'll try to answer as many of the questions as I can remember:
There will be characters throughout the race at various places. Last year I think we stopped 20-25 times during the race for pictures with characters.
Yes, yes, yes, almost all of the characters will have "handlers" with them who will happily take pics with your camera.
Occassionally at the start of the race and definately at the end of the race the official photographers will be around to take pictures. If you want one with your own camera then you can probably just pass your camera off to someone else.
Now for my picture taking strategy...I do the Disney races with several others. When we see a photo op, one of us runs ahead to get in line, while the rest of us maintain our regular race pace, this helps save time in line.
The characters were spread out over all the miles; in between the mile markers.
I didn't wait in any lines longer than 3 people. The more popular characters had longer lines (Mickey, Aladdin, pirates) I think the most congested area for pictures was backstage at the magic kingdom.
All the characters have someone woth them to take our picture, but there is no Photogropher there (you need to have a camera to get a pic)
I wish I had stopped for more pics last year. If you aren't worried about time, stop for pictures! If you are worried about time avoid the ones with lines.

I do not know specifically how this works at the princess half, but i can answer about Disney and Disney races in general.
If there is a Disney photographer, he or she is always willing to take a picture with your own camera as well. So, for example, at the end when they have photographers taking pix in front of the race backdrop screen with your medal, they will also do one with your camera.
At the start of the race? Well, I cannot imagine handing your camera off and posing for a photo op at the starting line -- you will get trampled byall those pretty princesses! If you mean waiting around beforehand, there will be several thousand of your closest friends waiting with you who would be happy to help by snapping a shot for you.
BTW, for marathon weekend races, if characters are really y popular, they usually have 2 handlers alternating, so the line moves really quickly. While one is snapping someone's picture, the other is getting the camera ready for the next person to run in for a photo. Disney knows how to keep things moving!
I agree with the above poster -- if time is not an issue, stop and enjoy! And enjoy your run!!
This will be my first Princess Half, so I don't know for certain, but it was as the previous posters have stated for the Wine and Dine Half as well as the Donald Half a few weeks ago.
There are handlers at all of the characters out along the course. They will be more than happy to take a photo with your camera. It will be your decision whether or not to stop--if the wait in line is worth it.
For the Wine and Dine, I stopped at every character on the course. For the Donald, I stopped at fewer. The lines for the couple that I skipped in January were ridiculous! 20+ people. I was there for fun, but I didn't want a totally stinky time either.
