princess gown dilemma

sweet dd, five years, is having fun with me planning our disney trip and looking at websites, but she has a BIG WORRY.

she so wants to wear her princess dress when she meets the princesses, but it is too itchy!

anyone know of a solution for a sensitive princess?

Is there any way you could sew a lining into the dress? You might also look for a slip for underneath. They usually sell them at clothing stores that cater to children's formal wear or you can even get them online for cheap. It also won't make her very sweaty as they are very light. I wore a slip all the time when I was a kid! You can get a one piece slip that is really like a light underdress. I hope this helps!

I am assuming she will be wearing soft clothing underneath. When my dd's wore their costurmes to meet the princesses, we put them on outside the character meals (w/ their clothes on underneath) and took them right off when we were done. It worked well for us. Good luck

yes, she'll wear clothes underneath. but it's really the arms and neck that itch her -- her dress is a sleeping beauty with pink see-through material with glitter on the arms.

Seriously though can she suffer through a brief slip on- eat slip off? Or I would just cut off the arms. If she isn't going to wear it with the arms- Also they sell long gloves- she could wear the long gloves under the dress so no itch!

I would look into making her a handmade one. There are patterns in the fabric store and even if you can't sew you can find someone who can. That way you can let her help pick out the fabrics so they won't itch. That's what my mom did for our Easter dresses when I was a kid.

My oldest wore her Cinderella gown just to meet Cinderella. She also thought it was itchy. But in all the excitement of FINALLY meeting Cinderella she forgot all about the "itchiness"!!

My 12 yr old DD has very sensitive skin, so I have to sew felt/flannel fabric inside her skating dresses, and inside areas of some of her dance costumes as well. I use either flesh colored polar fleece (for the skating dresses) or strips of tan colored knit fabric for the dance costumes. This year she had a dance costume with a sparkly tie around the neck, which left welts on her neck.

My dd is 2.5 and she wanted to wear her Minnie Mouse dress at WDW. We went last month and it was very hot. While we were on line waiting to meet Minnie, I just quickly slipped the dress on her (on top of her tank and shorts). After we took our pics, I immediately took it off and put it in a shopping bag and stuffed in the stroller basket ! I did see girls walking around in their princess dresses all day but I could never imagine that! I could barely stand my own clothes in that sweltering heat!

I had a dress made for my DD6. It is a simple Easter style dress that we made out of comfortable cotton. The person who sewed the dress customized the sleeves to be more like Cinderella's. Then, she made a skirt thing for the back (I have no idea what to call it. I'm more of a hot glue queen than a sewer!) The skirt thing is detachable, so DD now has a nice church dress to wear also. I was amazed at how well it looked. She did wear a can-can underneath, but she changed after 2 hours. (about 1 hour at breakfast and 1 hour in the park.)

I'll attempt to post a link to a picture, but I'm not completely sure what I'm doing! I have better pics of her with Cinderella & it's amazing how well the two dresses compliment each other. But, even with the help of the Tech board, I can't seem to make them small enough to share. Hopefully this one will give you the idea though! (assuming that it actually works!

unfortunately I'm not a sewer, but maybe grandma could whip something up. You princess mamas have other suggestions for little princesses?

There is also an ebay store that sells dresses and they look like they may be less itchy. I will post the site as soon as I can get on ebay. I am having a problem with their site right now.

You can buy fleece binding at the fabric store that is just a couple of inches wide. Even if you don't normally sew, if you can do a button, you can whipstitch the binding onto the inside of dress to encase the itchy neck hem and seams.

I bought my girls the same "Little Adventure" dresses off ebay that the PP had the link to except I purchased from this seller http://stores.ebay.com/MOLLYS-TOYS-4-TOTS_Dress-Up-Costumes_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ5QQftidZ2QQtZkm better prices and a great deal with shipping. I planned on getting the girls 3 dresses each, but ended up getting 4 each, 2 sets of doll dresses and accessories since the prices were so good! (I emailed her to see if what the prices would be to buy 6 dresses and accessories).

My youngest won't wear the "itchy" dresses for long enough to snap a pic of her in it! These dresses are great! Nothing itchy or scratchy on them at all! They feel so much nicer on then the ones we bought even at the Disney Store. Right now their dresses are up and waiting on our Disney trip (Aug. 31 ) In my signature they are in the Belle dresses with some accessories.

What if you put baby powder on the areas that itch. On DD's skin before you put the dress on. I don't know how much this will help but this is what we do to our kids here in our hot state of Hawaii to keep the kids more comfortable in their clothes and their Halloween costumes. My kids like the cornstach version, but any like Johnson's baby powder will do.

We have bought and worn dresses from Little Adventures as well - same as the ebay link... they are so light and I was able to roll up 5 or 6 in one large ziplock to take with us last time.... My daughter just wears a pair of shorts and a tshirt underneath... they are awesome, they wash and they are soft, etc.
