Are the ones sold at wal-mart good enough to wear to the park or do I need to go somewhere else to buy one?.....I have only gone to Disney with boys but we are taking my neice this year and wanted her to do BBB but it looks like she has to be 3 so she will miss it by a couple months....so we wanna still dress her up and let her get her hair colored and sprinkled at the Barber Shop

That would be fine. My daughter wore a Target dress her first trip (at 4). Everyone called her princess and she loved it!

We will be going to CRT. I am worried about the August heat and want my dd (7) to be comfortable. She also has a big thing against satin (can't stand the feel of it). I bought her a $7 princess nightgown from Walmart (has Aurora, Cinderella, and Belle on it I think). It still has the netting overtop, so it looks more dressed up than your average nightgown, but it is loose-flowing cotton so she should be very comfy and cool in it. I can't imagine that anyone would make her feel like less of a princess for wearing that rather than a traditional dress.

To both OP and the previous poster: Don't worry about it. Please don't waste money or risk comfort on the expensive dresses sold at Disney stores and such -- the costumed CMs will be absolutely charmed by anything princess-y that they wear, even if it's a $4 Ariel t-shirt from a discount store.

What do you do about shoes...do they wear the shoes sold with the dresses or just regular shoes?...she loves he pink crocs but I dont know maybe my wife needs to get into this discussion....:lmao:

My daughter wore one from Toys R Us. Like you, I was worried that my daughter would think the dress was uncomfortable. We had purchased the standard dress with netting and elastic at the neck and wrists. And, DD tried it on and hated it. On the day of our princess breakfast, she wore a light pink t-shirt that closely matched the gown color underneath the dress. She also wore a lightweight pair of shorts. We snipped the elastic on the wrists. And, as soon as the breakfast was over, the dress came off. We saw lots of girls with many different styles of princess dresses on while we were at breakfast. I would not have been able to guess which were "official" WDW dresses.

In 2008 my niece wore her Snow White Disney Park (bought the previous year at DL) dress to MNSSHP. She was hot and not very comfy in it. I brought a change of clothes and just before the party was over changed her.

Last year I made us Halloween Dresses. I also made most of the clothes she wore. I made them light and breathable.

This year I have made a bunch of sundresses for the younger niece. I will probably still bring the cute Tinkerbell outfit she got for her birthday from Wal-Mart. I looked at it and it looks more comfy than the park dresses.

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on the park dresses if you can find something else that she likes. It will probably be more comfortable and if it's not then you didn't spend a ton of money on a dress she wears once or twice.

I agree withy everyone..Ive seen no dresses, all decked out dressed, homemade dresses, questionable dresses etc..!

Im not sure when you are going, but I went to WDW in late Nov once and bought my daughters dresses/shoes/crown at the Disney Store after halloween and paid about $12.50 for everything. I stripped her in the bathroom after the meal to put on regular clothes, with all intention of tossing the outfit so I wouldnt have to carry it around. It actually wasnt the pain I thought it would be and managed to carry the bag the whole day...

Marshalls and TJMaxx also sell the dresses right around late Sept until Halloween..about 1/2 the price of Disney Store. You can also get some at DisneyOutlet.com all year round.

Good Luck!

We did CRT and Akershus and both times saw little girls in dresses and crocs. I thought it was brilliant. We opted for the glittery slippers sold in the Disney store and my niece did nothing but complain and lose them.

Oh, for the shoes, we got sparkly flip flops. My daughter loved them, and she said they were very comfortable. She wore them the rest of teh day.

I didn't see anyone in those little heeled princess shoes. I did see the flip flops too! I think everyone I took notice of was going for comfort, despite being decked out in a princess dress.

If you have a Disney outlet store near you, they often put the dresses on a clearance rack. I've also seen them at Target. The dresses from Disney have more glitter, more layers of thule and material, but honestly, no one cares. I wouldn't want to waste the money if it was for a very little girl who wouldn't notice anyway.

Whatever princess dress she likes is fine. You will see lots of little Princesses in tennis shoes at WDW. Definitely go for the comfortable shoes.

I'll chime in and agree with everyone else. My dd wore a princess dress we got at Target and her comfy sandals. SHe wore a light tank and shorts underneath so she could ditch the dress after her princess breakfast. My dd loves playing dress-up, but never leaves a costume on for very long. The wallyworld costumes would be perfect for your niece, I bet, given her age/size. The price would be much easier on the wallet, too ;)

I would do crocs, flip flops or sandals but definitely not sneakers (looks extremely trashy IMO). I'm sure any princess dress will be great, go for comfort. Some of those dresses just look so itchy, I couldn't imagine wearing one in the heat. She'll feel like a princess no matter what. princess:

thanks for helping a 37 year old male out....My wife wants to do this for her but wasnt sure how to appraoch it so I told her I would ask the experts...

We are going in mid-nov....She will wear the outfit to either MK or our princess breakfast at Epcot...maybe both....we will see...just wanna make it sweet for her and take some great pics...

so thanks again...i think I will get her some disney things to put on her crocs....She loves Snow White so I guess thats the route we will go...

My DD wore her nice dresses to the Princess meals but her cheap comfortable dresses for running around the parks. I carried a change of clothes each day but the only days she changed were the days she had her nice dresses on - they were too itchy and cumbersome. We did have some glittery flipflops I had picked up at Penneys (they were so cute, came in all different colors to match the dresses) but most days she just wore her tennis shoes. After all, a princess doesn't have to just look good, she has to feel good or she can make her whole kingdom unhappy!

I bought a fancy, used flower girl dress from ebay ($6.00) and then used fancy trims to make it more princessy....It was made well, with a cotton underskirt so it was comfortable. I also purchased a rhinestone tiara from ebay and my daughter wore white shoes from Walmart. she was very comfy and wore the dress most of the day. Cinderella made a comment about how unique my gaughter's dress was. It was very touching. We will do the same thing when we go in December.....

My daughters basically just wear their dresses for the Princess Lunch. They wear T-shirts with a tank underneath, and little "bike" type shorts to the park that day. Then, outside the castle we pull off the t-shirt and throw the dress on over the tank top.

Also, I can get both of the girls' dresses into a 2 gallon ziplock, and squeeze the air out until they're flat. Then we just throw it in the bottom of the stroller, and it hardly takes up any room at all.

My daughter alternated between her Target-bought Cinderella dress, and the Tiana dress from our local Disney store. She was fussed over just the same! And, to the second poster, I saw girls at the BBB in those types of nighties, and they looked adorable!

Exactly. I don't think the princesses judge ;)
