What is more common to see for formal night on little girls: princess dresses or formal dresses?

What about other nights on a 7 night Alaskan cruise?

I'm not sure how many princess dresses to pack for dd(5).

for a 5 yo I would vote for princess dress:thumbsup2

1st time cruiser but I bought a princess dress for my princess to wear on formal night!!

My vote would be for the princess dress - she will look adorable - but I would only bring one :lovestruc

My DD is 7 and will be wearing a princess dress. Yes, you'll only need one dress for dinner, but there is also a princess gathering that many girls dress up for as well. So she could wear the same dress or a different one. We usually have to pack a couple because she can't decide ahead of time which one she wants to wear!!!

Thank you all. :)

Problem with dd is that if she sees most others in a princess dress and she's in a formal dress or vice versa...
and she'll want her Bippity Boppity Boutique hair with her dress (i think I can re-create what BBB did, I saved the tiara - they don't have BBB on the Wonder?)

Great, maybe one dress will be enough. They aren't exactly suitcase space friendly.

Either would be great.

Our youngest dd brings tons of dresses when we cruise, always one princess dress, one flower girl type dress, one traditional Asian dress for semi-formal night (see my sig photos) and whatever dress she had for the previous Christmas/Easter. She recently saw a preview for Toddlers and Tiaras and said, "Wow, I want a dress like those girls have."

Going on a 14 night cruise and I'm working on the concept that she'll have to wear repeat outfits. :scared1:

I vote for princess dress! This is our 1st Disney cruise, but going through these boards for years I see lots of pics of little girls wearing princess gowns for formal night. :goodvibes

Actually, you would be surprised! I can fit my daughter's big Cinderella dress into a big Ziploc bag--I just fold it down and then smoosh it as flat as I can to get it into the bag. Then I press the air out of the bag and seal it shut. When it is time to take the dress out of the Ziploc, I just shake the dress out and it looks as good as new--no wrinkles. This is how I bring it to Disneyland and it works out great!

I do the same thing! Works like a charm and takes up very little space in DD's suitcase.

No, the only DCL ship that has BBB is the Fantasy. I think I read that some of the longer cruises have a temporary BBB set up somewhere, but I don't remember which cruises or ship(s).

I would vote for the princess dress, I think we got ours at "the little dress up shop" They are really good quality disney dresses, without the velcro,so it doesn't end up bagging out. They go by the childs size. They aren't the Disney Store brand, but look just like them. They have really good reviews.

What does "bagging out" mean?

The back of the dresses usually ends up becoming baggy. After you've fastened and unfastened ,after a while it stretches out the material . The site even has regular and deluxe dresses too. and the poofy underskirts.

Dissarak - Nice to see you over here - I'm used to seeing you on the other side. Thanks for the tip! DD has a Belle gown that is huge and stiff and I'm afraid she'll want to bring it. Same with Cinderella and it has the matching shoes etc. ---ohhhh talk about being overpacked and overweight. Her Rapunzel dress is a lot softer but we'll be taking our family portrait that night, you know for the Christmas card so if it's a princess dress I'd like for it to look presentable at least. I saw that limited edition Rapunzel dress at the Disney store and sooooo wanted to get it ($140 though).

She'll also bring her preschool grad dress, Easter dress, and 2 that I got on sale at Christmas that aren't Christmasey looking. I'm afraid we'll be joining Overpackers Anonymous. I had to ask DS(7) last night if he would be able to pull the medium suitcase since the rest of us will have 2 each. :scared1:

Breaking dawn - I Googled that dress shop, cute stuff!

 Good to "see" you! We're taking advantage of the Wonder docking so close to home and cruising to Alaska while we wait for the Carsland craziness to settle down at Disneyland a little bit...but I'm still missing planning a Disneyland trip.
