Hey Everyone!

I know I have been a total no-show but I have been trying to sell my house out here in CA (with no luck) and most of my things are packed (making it very hard to write with no menus to refer to) so I just went into hybernation.

But I just found a few of the menus and have pictures so here we go!

I'm not doing this in the order we did but such is life.

First on the Hit Parade - Dinner at Le Cellier

One word - sucked. Food, service (especially service), timing, management, everything. Just a total suckfest of suckness.

Here are the details: I was there with my best friend Catwoman and wanted her to see Illuminations. Our ressies were for 6:30pm so I thought we would be fine.

First, Le Cellier ALWAYS runs late. Second, they didn't have our ressie. So I pull out my confirmation number and find out it is at 7:30. I say "Is this going to be a problem with getting out for Illuminations?" They said no. They lied.

We come back and have to wait another 15 minutes before we are seated. I HATE having to rush but now we are. It is 7:45 and we have to be out by 9:00am.

We tell our server we need to be out by 9pm. She tells us no problem then vanishes for another 10 minutes without taking our order.

Catwoman starts with the Cheddar Cheese Soup:

Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup - smoked bacon and Moosehead beer $5.49

Same a before. Nice bite but a tad too spicy for me. Must be pepper. It makes me cough but still nice. A solid B

Duck Two Ways – Duck Confit and Seared Smoked Duck Breast with Chambord Syrup - $11.99
ducktwoways.jpg

For my appetizer I go for duck. The confit was too dry and pretty forgettable. The duck breast was better. It was tender and tasty The raspberries paired well with this. I give this a B- due to the confit.

Now we take a nasty turn. The time is starting to get critical. We can still make it if the waitress would just move it. I use to wait tables so I know what I’m talking about. Her station wasn’t that big, she was talking in the side station, etc. CLEAR OUR PLATES AND GET OUT OUR ENTREES! She was as slow as maple syrup on a snowy Canadian winter.

So next she brings our mains. Catwoman gets the prime rib which is cooked perfectly. Both of us are dipped in blood carnivores and we like our meat mooing.

Herb Crusted Prime Rib - roasted Yukon potatoes, finished with a veal demi glace $24.99

Catwoman liked hers fine, not the best she ever had but not the worst either. She gave it a B. Mine on the other hand:
mushfilet.jpg

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with Baby Bella wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce, topped with fried parsnips $28.99

Was a HORRID DISASTER. Picture looks fine right. First the “fried” parsnips were chewy. They were bendy. This comes from stale parsnips and oil that was not hot enough. The worst was the meat. They cooked it. It was Medium Well done. It took me about 5 minutes to corral chatty cathy to show her the meat. “Does this look rare to you?” She didn’t see what the problem was. The problem is that it is burned. It is cooked. It is brown. It is inedible. I won’t eat it and NO you can’t bring me another on because obviously the cook doesn’t know how to cook meat AND we are running out of time. Take it away, chuck it in the bin and bring me the mussels. Mushroom Filet - F

Prince Edward Island Mussels - served chowder style with applewood smoked bacon and potatatos $10.99
mussels.jpg

Mussels don’t take long to cook at all. I had Catwoman start eating. She was ¾ DONE before they brought out my mussels. The mussels were fine. The seasoning was a bit .. interesting. The chowder broth (a little chunky) was odd since mussels are usually served in a clear broth but it wasn’t bad. I’d give it a B+

We both wanted dessert (which was included in the Dining Plan) but now it is 5 minutes to 9 and Illuminations will be starting soon. The bill comes even before asking for dessert. There is a mistake on the bill. They double charged for water. Ummm, non-alchoholic beverage is INCLUDED. I am torn between just paying and leaving in a snit or getting desserts to go. I call the girl over, point out the mistakes, tell her I am NOT paying for the water, they should REALLY comp our wine to make up for the food mistake which has ruined my dinner, we want dessert to go (the Moose off the kids menu) and I now hear Illuminations starting so she better run. She said she had to ask her manager. I told her to send the manager over and I’d talk to her but I wasn’t going to sit here debating it with her after this debacle of a meal.

I ended up insisting they take off the items, grabbed the dessert and ran. We missed half of Illuminations. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN.

Fortunately this was our worst meal of the trip. The rest are much better reviews.

Sorry to hear about the poor start to the trip but I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews. Glad to hear things got better from that point on! :)

Thanks for writing and posting reviews, looking forward to reading more. I hope someone from Le Cellier reads this!

Good start (well good start for thread, poor start for food).......ready for more!

Sorry you had such a bad experience at LeCellier. Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!

Shame about your meal at Le Cellier. Our server was pretty quick so I guess we were lucky but I had to send back my filet steak too, it was gross! They did offer another but I couldn't be asked... DH's filet was perfect though so perhaps consistency is a problem for them.

Can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

Let’s go back in time…………………. Our first night in WDW, we checked into Wilderness Lodge and had to rush to our dinner at Artist Point. The is what happens when you are coming from California, have free tickets on Jet Blue, then have to route through JFK.

I would always start off my vacation with Artist Point. The food is always consistent and tonight was no exception.

We both started off with the Shiitake Mushroom Soup with Chive Oil. $7
mush_soup.jpg

This is the most amazing soup. Now that the Disney Dining Plan has taken away appetizers as well as soup/salad I will have to pay out of pocket for it and will do so gladly. The smoky flavor of the mushrooms with the creamy texture and the hint of chive oil just make this soup so good I want to lick the bowl – A

For our mains, I had the Grilled Buffalo Sirloin Steak - with sweet potato-hazelnut gratin and sweet onion jam $32
BuffaloSteak.jpg

The meat was tender, not gamey but lean. The gratin was amazing. I still had half of this left that I put in the fridge in my room to have for breakfast the next day.

Catwoman had the Pan-seared Pork Chop on Tillamook Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Maytag Crust $26
PorkChop.jpg

I wish I could have tasted this. But I am allergic to the blue cheese. She told me the pork was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. The Mac & Cheese paired with the sharp cheese just perfect. I commented that this was ripped off from Jiko and their filet with mac & cheese and then find out that Chef Annette over there use to be here at Artist Point and this is her dish Figures.

We passed on dessert as we were tired and full. A really nice way to start out trip as always.

What a shame about your meal at Le Cellier - sounds as thought Artist Point more than made up for it though. We actually really enjoyed Le Cellier when we went and the service was great too - just goes to show how things can change from one day to the next :confused3

We have both Lecellier and Artist point on our ADRs for may...

great reviews... Thanks... I actually have to have my meat COOKED!!!! probably burnt to you... I am usally sending mine back to cook it more.. LOL...

Our next day (actually our first day in the World) was Animal Kingdom. It is always a good start. Its a quick park, a nice park and doesn't suffer by comparison to the larger parks.

For lunch we went over to my standby for the last 2 trips - Flame Tree BBQ. I told Catwoman how wonderful the pulled pork sandwich was. The past two trips it had been wonderful and I have been avoiding Tuskers since Goofy has decided to dump the whole salt shaker into my meals there on a regular basis.

Well this time it was a not the same. The sandwich was dry, the extra suace on the side didn't help and the buns were hard and cold. Just not good. We tried to eat most of it as not to waste food but ending up leaving at least 1/4 of the sandwich on the plate.

Next time I am going to Yak & Yeti (it wasn't open in April). On the whole, C+

Next: Jiko with pics

Exactly. Our last meal at Le Cellier was perfect. While at Artist Point my filet was as over cooked as Princess Aurora's was at Le Cellier. Then on their second attempt it was raw. The server grabbed it back from me the second I cut into it! They did finally get it right (long after DH had finished his salmon, of course) and did not charge me for it. I'll try it again though as I know they were likely just having an off night.

Ooops, I just realized as I was almost done that I was suppose to be writing about Jiko. Well, I am near done with Narcooses so we will just continue forward with that. I'll do Jiko tomorrow.

Now we head over to Narcooses and I am all excited. We have to wait just a few minutes for our table. No problem. I do get to hear this fine exchange between a mother and her boy. He is all hyper, she is tired.

Mom – Give Mommy your gum
Boy – (spits gum in her hand) - (grabs Moms purse and is going through it like a ferret)
Mom – Honey, don’t put your hand in Mommy’s private place.

HUH??!! (I do a double take. Dad has that look on his face that says “Mommys private place is for Daddy.”) I get all creeped out but before I can tell Catwoman we get seated.

They seat us not far from the door and I ask if Chef Gray is working tonight (he better be). They tell me he is no longer there. What? WHAT??!!!! I explain that they only reason I was eating here was because of Chef Gray and where is he and what did you do to him?

The hostess must have thought I was as crazy as the President of the “I want to Marry Sanjai.. Sanjay.. That Weird Kid from American Idol Fan Club”.

Catwoman is giving me the “you promised no more Lucy Ricardo stunts of insanity and I am not stuffing chocolate in my hat” type of looks. I sit down. I pout. I get over it. I try to make the best of it.

Our waiter shows up and starts to explain the saga of Chef Gray.

After I stopped crying, I met Chef Joe. I was drawn to him since he was from Alameda , just a spit from Oakland where I am living so there was a camaraderie there. He knew Gray and liked him a lot. It seemed that Chef Gray is now in Georgia or Alabama or squirrel butt, Arkansas (apologies to all the good people from the wonderful State of Arkansas – I am sure not all of your cities are named after a rodents hind quarters). He is teaching now and I’m sure opening a restaurant. When I win the lottery, he will live with me in my castle in the sky and be my personal chef.

Anyway, back on Earth, Chef Joe asked what we were ordering. I had decided to order the surf & turf because I never get good lobster and we are on the dining plan so I figured it would be cost effective. He was disappointed. While the surf & turf is a staple, he said it really isn’t anything special. So I decided to order what he recommended as well as Catwoman. Boy, am I so glad I did. Narcooses is now my favorite place for dinner. (Uncle Romulus, you can go back there now.)

STARTERS:

I had the Chef's Special - Crispy Buttermilk Fried Oysters - $15
Soy Ginger Dipping Sauce And Cajun Remoulade
oysters.jpg

The oysters were so soft and flavorful. The crispy batter was light and not greasy at all. The sauces paired so well I couldn't decide which I liked better and ended up combining them. Dipping in one and then the other.

Catwoman had Beet & Goat Cheese Salad - $12
Oranges, Frisee, Candied Pecans, and Orange Honey Vinaigrette
friseesalad.jpg

She found this tart, sweet and crisp all at once. The flavors blended well together.

ENTREES

I had the other Chef's Special: Pan Roasted Tile Fish - $32
Angel Hair Pasta, Fennel, Swiss Chard and Olive-Tomato Tapenade
monkfish.jpg

This fish was delicate, perfectly cooked and full of flavor.

Catwoman had the Grilled Sea Scallops - $34
Green Garlic Risotto and Lobster Sauce
halibutcheeks.jpg

Scallops are so easy to overcook. These were tender, perfect char on the outside and soft on the inside. Not rubbery at all. The sauce and the garlic paired perfectly with the delicate seafood without overpowering it.

For dessert we had the Coconut-Mango Panna Cotta wrapped in orange chocolate and served with kiwi sorbet $7
mangomouse.jpg

This was a refreshing end to our meal. Light, tangy, fruity and refreshing. The kiwi sorbet was amazing and it paired nicely with the mango mousse.

I should also mention we had two cocktails:
Catwoman had the Narcarita - $9
Sauza Tequilla, Triple Sec, Sour Mix, and Splash of Grand Marnier

I had the Florida Breeze - $7
Banana Liquor, Malibu Rum, Orange Juice and Pineapple Juice.

YUMMY! This is defiantly a keeper as long as Chef Joe is at the helm.
