This was just posted on our internet home page. I thought the movie would have brought in more on its opening weekend. Hopefully more people will see it over holidays!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "The Princess and the Frog" earned a big wet kiss from family audiences as the animated musical leaped to No. 1 with $25 million in its first weekend of nationwide release, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The Disney musical is the studio's first hand-drawn animated tale in five years, a contrast to the computer-animated films that now dominate the cartoon world.

"I've always believed that when you start with great storytelling, then the format aside doesn't mean anything," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney.

The movie also is a return to Disney's reinvention of classic fairy tales, offering a 1920s New Orleans twist on the Brothers Grimm story "The Frog Prince," following the adventures of a young woman turned into a frog by a kiss from an amphibian.

Despite its No. 1 finish, "The Princess and the Frog" drew modest crowds compared to many big animated tales, which can open with two or three times as much business. Those films typically open during the busy summer season, though, and Disney is counting on the long shelf life that many films manage during the holidays.

So is 'long shelf life' the reason we don't get to see it in the UK until 5th Feb 2010 :sad2:

I do hope it does well though as I prefer the hand drawn movies, just seems more Disney to me :goodvibes

ok....so explain that to me....
we also won't get it here until February - but the excuse here is that the dubbed version takes time (they release the english and the dubbed versions at the same time here)...

so explain it to me, what exactly are they dubbing for the UK????????
why should it take until february for it to be released for you???????
i totally don't get that at all!! :confused3

Me neither! We also didn't get UP until October (May release in the US). I could understand with UP if they waited until the summer school break but the Autumn half term break :confused3
They would not have to do anything to the movie as far as I am aware, we just get stuff like this all the time and then they complain that people are illegally downloading movies - I wonder why
We also wait ages for TV shows - for example Glee is getting a sneak peak showing tomorrow! The latest season of Heroes hasn't even been shown yet, same with Desperate Housewives! The don't show the Amazing Race here AT ALL anymore :scared1:
The only things we've noticed that are shown a day or two after they air in the US are Lost and Modern Family! In fact with Modern Family they showed double episodes two weeks running to catch up! Back in 2005 just before we went to WDW we saw the first two episodes of Lost, when we were at WDW they were starting to show the second season :confused3 It has improved slightly since then but not much.
Rant over
