Prince Harry's New Book... wow!

Oh, and this is just in. The Telegraph did an interview with Harry.

Prince Harry exclusive: ‘There’s enough for another book – I cut memoir in half to spare my family’

Duke tells The Telegraph ‘some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, I just don’t want the world to know’.

Prince Harry said: “The first draft was different. It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.”

He added: “There are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.”

He admitted he had struggled at times to determine what to include and what to leave out following 50 Zoom calls with his ghostwriter, aware that, within his family, writing a book was “an absolute no”.

Prince Harry – who has accused Palace staff of lying to protect his brother Prince William – claimed that the media had “a s--- tonne of dirt about my family, I know they have, and they sweep it under the carpet for juicy stories about someone else”.

He said he knew he was “going to get trashed” for anything he included about his family, but insisted that it was impossible to tell his story without their inclusion.

The Duke also revealed that he felt “responsibility” to reform the monarchy for the sake of Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four. “I know that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare,” he said. “And that hurts, it worries me.”

He admitted that the notion frustrated Prince William, adding: “He has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility.”

Regardless, he said he liked to “fix” things and was approaching his mission with “long-term, strategic thinking”.

“This is not about trying to collapse the monarchy – this is about trying to save them from themselves,” he claimed. “I know that I will get crucified by numerous people saying that.”

[...]
Prince Harry said he genuinely wanted his brother and his father back in his life. His “technique”, he suggested, was to completely curtail the relationship between the Royal family and the press and, by doing so, protect them.

“When you’re trying to change an institution, and fundamentally the media landscape, that is not a small task,” he added. “The scale of the challenge is enormous, and I have to be able to protect myself mentally and emotionally throughout that process.”

He admitted he did not understand why it was considered so “shocking and outrageous” for him to tell his own “truthful” side of the story, but vowed to continue “the good fight” in standing up for Meghan “and other women” and encouraging other men to do the same.

“If you don’t lead by example, what is the point in living?” he asked.

The full interview has this for a headline:
‘This is not about trying to collapse the monarchy, this is about trying to save them from themselves’
(The interview is done by a journalist who worked with him on Heads Together and he came on her podcast, so old friends)

I literally just got comfy in a recliner with a blanket on my legs on this rainy, cold day to sit down and start reading my copy of Spare, which DH ordered me for Christmas. It came two nights ago. Had I read some of the excerpts prior to the original purchase I may have cancelled it, but our main gift to eachother was a Disney trip and this was the only other gift he bought me so I kept it. We’ll see how it goes. :bitelip:

I wish we had a thumbs down emoji. Prince William and his family don’t need Prince Harry to protect them, and HE doesn’t need to change the monarchy or the media. Another example of his grandiosity.

and now tj max has commented in responce to harry's claims-

Retailer TK Maxx have also joined the fray, and pointed out that Harry was inaccurate in saying that he enjoyed shopping their "once-a-year sale", and instead they have discounts "year round".

"Whilst we're delighted Prince Harry is a big fan, we thought we should explain we don't actually do sales. Instead, we offer great value, style, and savings all year round," the retailer told The Express.

I wish Elizabeth Ardern gave a response to Harry's book. There is no such thing as bad publicity, right? They must be happy with the honourable mention.

An extract reads: "I'd been trying some home remedies, including one recommended by a friend, she'd urged me to apply Elizabeth Arden cream.

"'My mum used that on her lips, you want me to put that on my todger?!', 'It works Harry, trust me'.

"I found a tube and the minute I opened it, the smell transported me through time. I felt as if my mother was right there in the room and I took a smidge and applied it down there."

As the extract from the book was shared on Twitter,
fans couldn't help but react – with one branding it a "Freudian nightmare".

"I need therapy after listening to this," one joked.
Another added: "I am howling … 8 Hour Todger Cream".

I just started reading it yesterday-good day for it here too, absolutely miserable out, dreary and nonstop rain in Northern CA. I actually lucked out at the library yesterday. I was volunteering there and another lady brought the book to me, it was on a lucky day shelf, score! So of course I checked it out. I was #421 on the hold list so it would've been awhile before I could get my hands on it. I'm about a hundred pages in, it's very interesting to me. Who knows the truth, everybody has their own experience or memories of what happened. I'll take it with a huge grain of salt. I've always been fascinated by the royal family though so I'm excited to read it.

I have not read the book or seen the interviews (well, I started watching one and zoned out...yawn). but i have read most of these threads. I am not a subject of the King, so my opinion doesn't really matter.

But, from what I've seen and read, Harry is very immature. He has been both sheltered and enabled his entire life. He complains about the media publishing gossip about him and his wife, but I suspect he has had a significant amount of behavior that has NOT been published. He admits to drug use, so I'm sure there are some stories surrounding this that have been squashed by the firm. He complains about security and insists that he has not been provided with enough of it, but then he continues to draw attention to himself over and over again. On top of that, he published his "count" against enemies in war, how does that affect his personal security?!

I have a suspicion that the firm is tired of dealing with him. I imagine his behavior is a huge liability. so, now that he has publicly removed himself from the ranks, he is damaging himself more than the monarchy.

He is not the first sheep that went astray from the royal fold, nor will he be the last. It happens in all families, yet somehow Harry believes he is unique. I guess that comes from being raised to believe so.

I have never disliked Harry, always hoped he'd break free from the monarchy as he clearly has been miserable for 25+ years. The requirements are not for everyone. I really had no feelings either way for her, still don't, just kinda saw her as pursuing her dreams only to find out it's way more complicated life than she thought. Again, move on and you all do your own thing, without what is happening now.

NOW I HAVE found their behavior, especially his, offensive, disrespectful, hateful and contrary to everything he says he wants.

BUT NOW, for me, HE HAS CROSSED THE LINE. Who the hockey sticks does he think he is? He's barely been a parent, and William & Kate have shown themselves over and over to be excellent parents. Their children look very happy, delightful, engaging and well adjusted.

I hope Charles & William cut him off for good from everything, including "titles" as they don't respect them or need them. How dare him proclaim himself a savior of the niece and nephews, how dare him proclaim himself so superior to his brother in parenting, how dare him cross that line. How dare him, period! 🤬This is my last straw ~ nothing he says is of any value and I honestly don't care his outcome.

I really dread to think what Harry will be revealing in his next book. And I'm sure his family are too.

Catherine and William have been on a royal visit to a hospital yesterday and Kate managed a little quip saying "talking therapies don't work for everyone". I'm guessing that's as much of a response as the royal family are going to give at the moment.

Where’s the remorse for how you treated “Pat”?

This one’s really sad. (And using the British press when it’s to his advantage.)

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...DIY-family-photo-wall-14-65-million-home.html

”Despite taking aim at the 'British press' in his book, Harry invited Telegraph journalist Bryony Gordon into the Sussexes' California home earlier this month for yet another interview, in which he spoke out about the explosive bombshells he shared about his family in Spare.

snip

The 38-year-old sat down with The Telegraph for the latest in a line of one-on-ones to promote his memoir Spare - and proudly showed off the wall of framed photos to the writer.

However, while Harry may have cut out pages of his book - he also, according to Gordon, cut out William and Charles from his display of family photos, which the writer revealed he had 'just finished putting together' when their interview took place.

Describing the picture gallery, which is located along a staircase in the property, Gordon stated that it featured 'scores of framed photographs of his wife and children, alongside lovely hand-written cards from his grandparents'.

Not included in that loving familial display? William and Charles. A fact that the journalist makes painfully clear in the final sentence of her piece, where she writes: 'Mostly I think about how nice it would be for Harry’s brother and father to see the wall, and one day maybe even have some of their own carefree photographs included on it.'

☹️

Thanks, I hate unfinished business and I had a handful of newspapers reviews I wanted to summarize for those interested.

But shall we start with something lighthearted?
One of the inaccuracies in the book is Harry's claim that Meghan had bought a ticket for her father to fly from Mexico to London on Air New Zealand in First Class.
Only... Air New Zealand doesn't operate that route, and they don't have a first class cabin.

I love NZ for how creative they have been with their flight safety videos, but they are also cheeky with their Social Media :)

But Air New Zealand does (or used to before covid) fly nonstop from Los Angeles to London, and it has (had) Business Class if not First. Maybe Harry Boy meant the father was going to get to England via a connection in LA.

I flew Los Angeles to London and back on Air New Zealand before in Business Class. It is (or was) one of the world’s most famous “Fifth Freedom” routes.

(Flying from country A to country B using an airline from country C.)
