Prime Time...??

My daughter has been wanting to go here for a long time and I have always said no. Why? I've always had this idea that if you don't finish your plate the "mom" will yell at you or something. If you have eaten here please share your experience.

We're going to Disney for my DD Bday and I'm thinking of going here but if they're going to yell at me or my kids not a chance.

It's all done in a lighthearted way, at least in our experience ... stuff like the server making an airplane noise while moving the fork full of green beans toward someone's mouth. There is plenty of "no elbows on the table," being chastised because you tattled, even having to stand in the corner (in my case, which my kids loved).

But ... if that sort of thing isn't funny to you, or if a youngster doesn't get the joke, I can see where it would be unpleasant. I think the servers can get a pretty good read on whether or not to play their characters to the max.

Or, you could just ask before being seated that you just aren't into the roleplay aspects, and just want to eat in peace. But that sort of negates the charm of 50's in the first place. It's all done in fun, but again, people's definition of fun can be pretty varied. We've never been "yelled" at, nor ever experienced anything meanspirited.

This is one spot we just about always take Disney newbies to.

The ribbing is all in fun and the food is good. That said, if you are the overly sensitive sort Prime Time may not be the place for you.

The Prime Time always makes our list of "must do's" and we're typically a reserved and quiet family. I was a little unsure the first time we went too, but it's just good fun. We've always requested Auntie Claire as our server and we're hoping to get her this time, too. We'll be there 6/11-6/19. I think you should give it a try.

I love Prime Time, and have eaten there many times (just this past weekend, actually!).

It's really all in good fun- no one is going to literally "yell" at you for not eating everything on your plate. It's mostly just good-natured joking around, and as a previous poster stated, the servers are usually pretty good at reading their customers. Some people are definitely more into it than others, and I think the staff is quite good at picking up on that.

But don't worry, it's really fun (good food, too), and your family will have a great time! No one there is going to make someone upset just because they didn't finish all their green beans, etc

First time we went they had my DD, age 12 at the time, stand up & do the "I'm a little tea pot" song, for not finishing what was on her plate; she loved the attention actually.

Next time was back in 2006 with my now husband & his 2 girls; he didn't finish what was on his plate so they told him to go & stand up with his head facing the wall & say I'm a bad boy, I gotta tell ya I was surprised he did it (My Harley Biker Dude) & it was then I knew I'd marry him.

Last time I went there was back in Dec 08 & the servers were making more fun with one another then with the customers. Our server & the one next to us were supposed to have been brothers & they would crack jokes about eachother & when one did something wrong they would threaten to tell "mom & dad" The food was pretty good too.

It's truely all in fun & you just have to go with it. If you get offended or embarrassed easily this may not be the place for you then. I myself am all for a good laugh & have even learned to laugh at myself...saves others from thinking they beat me to it

PT is all about fun IMO. Everything they do is in the name of fun. But the CM there are good about reading "body language" and if they feel you don't want to be messed with they will not mess with you. It's as simple as that. Don't miss out on they're great food because they really do have some good food. Their fried chicken and pot roast are two of their specialties.

This past December while I was there having dinner with three of my friends who are from Orlando and our server did that to one of them, which we thought was one of the funniest things we ever saw.

We eat at the Prime Time everytime we visit. All jesting is in good fun. We once sat next to an adult father and son who were sitting across the table from one another. The father shoveled his green beans onto his son's plate while "Uncle Dave" stood behind watching. The son tried to motion to stop, but to no avail. Uncle Dave sent the father to the corner. We ran into the pair a couple of times during our visit by coincidence and laughed everytime.

This is one of our favorite restaurants. Depending which server you get, if you eat everything on your plate, you get a "Clean Plate Club" sticker. Hint-If you don't want those awful green beans, you can ask for corn. One time my husband wouldn't keep his elbows off the table, so the server squirted ketchup across the edge of the table. It was so funny. I have also seen them get everyone in the room to say "Shame, shame, shame" while pointing to people that don't eat their green beans. It's all in fun. People expect it and I've never seen anyone get mad because of the teasing.

I would give it a try. We went in Oct. and is was good fun. Our cm was tame, she said a few little jokes, but that was about it. I think you would enjoy it. Plus, the pot roast is delish.

50's PTC is one of my favorite places. As pp have stated it's all in good fun, but it's not for everyone. There's no need to go to a restaurant full of anxiety & trepidation - there's plenty of other good places to go where you won't have to worry about any such antics .

On one visit we were a party of nine, all seated at one table, and we had the legendary Auntie Claire, who absolutely channeled an aunt of mine - bringing around a photo album from a family reunion, etc. It was sidesplitting. Our group, which was four adults and the rest high school and college "kids", played right along.

One of our girls had fried chicken, which came with collard greens (I love 'em, but they aren't for everyone), and she tried to hide them under some chicken bones and under a napkin. Auntie Claire had obviously seen this ploy before and, well, let's just say she didn't let our young lady get away with it.

On another trip we just happened to be there on DD's 20th birthday. Our server had the whole room sing to her, then passed around a birthday card for everyone in our section of the restaurant to sign. It was great.

It's a real treat - think of yourself just being part of an on-stage performance, and go with it (if you're so inclined).

And don't miss the peanut butter and jelly shake. It tastes a lot like a Reece cup.

We missed it this last trip, and I'm sorry we did.

after eating there for the first time in april we will never go to disney again without eating at prime time. both my boys loved it and we had a blast. we saw the waitress do the ketchup thing across the table to a lady sitting next to us. another waitress made a guy at the same table go stand with a pack of sweet and low against the wall holding it with his nose because he wouldn't keep his elbows off the table. our waitress brought my husband a cup of iced tea and when she got back he had drank it all already and she yelled at him and then brought him 4 more and sat them in front of him and yelled that she didn't care if he p'd the bed - drink up. then i ordered just water with lemon and she's yelling so your to cheap to buy a drink your just going to make lemonade huh? so funny. our boys said it was the best dinner they ate the whole 10 days we were there. oh we all had fried chicken which was excellent and the boys had peanut butter and jelly shakes which they said were to die for. got the recipe and have made them at home since as well.
