50's Prime Time Cafe is themed like mom's kitchen from the 1950's. Each section is a "kitchen" with several tables/booths. All around are B/W TVs from the 50's showing clips from TV shows of that era. Servers are either "brother" or "cousin" or "aunt" someone. There's a lot of schtick -- set the table, keep your elbows off the table, don't talk with your mouth full, etc. Break the rules too often and your server may have to stand in the middle of the room and sing "I'm a Little Teapot!"

The menu is comfort food with big portions. I highly recommend the chicken noodle soup. The pot roast and meatloaf entrees are especially good.

If you do either one, I would recommend a PS, even in value season. Both restaurants are very popular and fill-up quickly.

Your kids may enjoy and appreciate Sci-Fi more than 50s PTC. 50's is a big hit with baby-boomers.

My teens prefer Primetime. If your kids have a good sense of humor they will crack up at this place. We have dined at both places several times and we prefer the food at atmosphere at 50's. (Although, I think it is great to be able to do both.)

My kids, 6 & 9, prefer Primetime. They love having mom and dad having to follow the rules of the "Mom."

Bratray,

my 11 yr old ds LOVES Sci Fi. he couldn't relate to prime time. he is fascinated though by the concept of "drive in theaters" since he has never been to one. he also loves the 'old fashioned' scarry movies. the food portions are large at Sci Fi too - we think their onion rings are the best ever.

have fun:Pinkbounc

You may find Sci-Fi a little more difficult to have a conversation in. I believe all the "tables" are really car so you don't face the people in your party -- you are all facing front.

dh and i (in our early-mid twenties) really like primetime. as a matter of fact, it has made it on to our "must-do" list. :)

sci-fi was ok, but we thought primetime was way better both in terms of food and service. :)

we loved both. We did not try 50s Prime Time until our most recent visit. If I had to choose one, I would choose 50s Prime Time - I don't know how we missed it before!!

My DH and I love the sci - fi! Our DD7 and DD5 love it too, but for different reasons.

They are entranced by the movies, and the whole concept of a drive-in. As they are so entranced, DH and I can enjoy a relatively quiet meal, without having to "entertain" them!

I also highly recommend the margaritas!

Another vote for the PT 50's!!

Ask for Auntie Claire or Ruth if you want a great experience.
Food is "comfort food"; from meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast.
You can get burgers and salads too. The portions are large and there is no problem w. sharing a plate.

Sci-Fi is okay. I understand the concept or being in a car and dining while watching the "drive-in" shows but really am not fond of dining out and not talking to my family. If you are an odd numbered party; someone will be left dining along. If you want to share meals its difficult with the setup.

well, the 50's Prime Time sounds so good I am hungry already <lol>
come jan "mom" will see me

thanks for all the advice

The Sci fi has a great, fun atmosphere but the food and service were pretty mediocre. If it had not been for the environment of the place, I would not have been pleased, but because it's fun, I enjoyed it.

I have been to them both. Both restaurant were entertaining. I would vote for Prime Time. As other posters have said it is harder to converse at Sci-Fi because of the set up. To get your full entertainment value of PT you go in there with a bit of sense of humor and go with the flow.

We've eaten at both several times. I prefer the food at Prime Time, my kids seemed to enjoy the ribbing. On the next trip though they all adamantly said they did NOT want to go to the place where you get teased. They love Sci-Fi and it's the one place they all pick that they just absolutely have to eat. They adore sitting in those silly cars. I can take it or leave it, but since they love it so much we usually end up doing it.

The food at Prime Time is soooooooo much better than at Sci Fi. Even the movie reel isn't enough for my family, including two teens and an 8-year-old, to pick Sci Fi over Prime Time.

I think you would prefer Sci-Fi.

The atmosphere at Sci Fi is really good and our children LOVE the shakes.

Rneighh - I think you'll find you are wrong, last time we visited Sci-Fi, yes you do sit in cars but you Don't all face the front, they are 2 opposite 2 seating tables.

hello

i got my ress at prime time cafe!! even got the exact time i asked for

i am not going to tell family what the atmosphere is at the prime time- i am just going to sit back and watch the fun when the server (maybe) mentions elbows on table and cleaning your plate <lol> i will enjoy watching families unassuming reactions!

You made the right decision!

I can only speak for our car at Sci Fi, but all seats (three rows) faced the front, so you could only really converse with the people beside you.

Richard3330 -- if your kids liked the shakes at Sci Fi, they would be in heaven at Prime Time. Sci Fi has shakes that come out of a machine already made (think Wendy's) while Prime Time makes them by hand the old-fashioned way.

I loved Prime Time myself, I was just there on Friday for lunch, and "Uncle Tim" was awesome! Sure enough he made a teenager stand in the middle of the room doing the Teapot. He asked a couple men in a group if they had washed their hands, and when they had said yes, he asked what color the walls were, and what color the soap was.....guess what, they got sent back!!! He also had one of them bring me my birthday cupcake and sing happy birthday to me, I thought it was hilarious!!!

Food wise, I would recommend the Fried Chicken, it was juicy, tender, HOT, and the mashed potatoes were skins on, with lumps.

I would go back again for sure, and recommend it to anyone!!!
