When we were leaving on Saturday we were talking with the DVC rep at OKW. She told us that now is the time to buy because in another year things are going to go through the roof and that Disney is going to take DVC worldwide. Does anyone know if this is actually true and what is in the works? I know about the Hawaii resort but is there more. It may make my DH move faster if he thinks that prices will skyrocket.

Our guide told us that the prices on new DVC properties and expansions would be higher at buy-in and on dues once they are on sale, but he hasn't said anything about remaining current properties (WDW properties, VB and HHI) going higher.

Prices will always go up unless the economy continues to go down. If things really slow down, Disney will stop construction and wait for the demand to pick up.

Okay, I'm REALLY reaching here, but I can't help but think that the deal that Disney cut with Four Seasons doesn't have a more broad benefit than the $$$$ (and lots of it!!!) they received. If Disney were going to go worldwide, what better partner to have than Four Season? I'm not saying it would be a joint venture, and I'm not educated enough to know if Four Seasons is considered a head-to-head competitor with Disney. But, one way or the other, the rumors have been out there, and I think the timing of the Four Seasons/WDW deal is quite interesting. At least it's a good conspiracy theory!!! :rolleyes1

We bought our recent add-ons in 2006 and in 2008, as the USD/CAN exchange rate keeps getting better for us (last time was at par).

With the GCV sales starting later this year after BLT goes for sale, I can imagine the price per point increasing twice (a conservative guess would be by $8 total per point by this fall).

Keep in mind that the members who bought OKW when it first went for sale got it for $50/point. Look where we are now. The more resorts, the more the cost per point.

As for the US recession, DVC is holding its ground - and contributing to big profits for Disney - so waiting to purchase based on the US ecomony downward trend isn't a very good strategy. More international buyers (including us Canucks) are buying in, adding on, as our currencies strengthen against the USD. While less Americans buy, there's more being sold to international members.

Hey we suffered with horrible USD/CDN exchange rates for years and finally we have a break. How long that will hold is anyone's guess but our economy is linked the US's and what affects them will eventually bear down on us. Take advantage of the exchange rate now while we're at par - and get points soon before the their cost increases with BLT and GCV this year!

Remember that even though Guides are usually very very good, they are still, at their core, timeshare sales(wo)men. I'd take any speculation I heard from a guide with a large dose of salt. Especially if the speculation is "You should buy sooner rather than later because...."

I don't know about all of you in your areas, we were in a building boom, it is slowing down. The contractors are starting to have a wait and see what is happening attitude. We own a construction business, we are being fuel surcharged on everything. Material has went through the ceiling. I just don't see Disney not being affected by this. Then to top all this off, people have to travel. It was $100.00 to fill my tank the other day, I liked to fell over. We are still having lower fuel prices than the rest of the nation (or so they say)...$3.79 reg unleaded. Food prices are out of control here, everytime we go to the store, they are higher. It reminds me of the 70's. For our house, we are going to try to save everything we can. I didn't have a dime to my name in the 70's, I swore this was not going to ever happen to me again. We all need to be Wise in the next year and see what is going to happen, with Life and Disney. Disney has carried the Stock Market on several days, I own Disney, this may be a very interesting ride. :worried:

Disney is expecting a slow down. How can a family justify going to Disney when they can't afford to buy food or gas to get to work. The increased gas and airfare prices are bound to affect a families ability to vacation. The economy is one reason the Nov park hours for the MK were delayed being released. It's also the reason why DVC reduced the minimum point buy in to 100.

I also heard that the Osborne Lights will be delayed a few weeks. The December Christmas week airfares for SW and Airtran(discount carriers) have yet to be released. Think we might see some sticker shock. Glad to see someone else not looking thru rose colored glasses.

Ok, I know this is off topic, but I would kill for gas prices like that! I live less than a mile from Disneyland and the gas station right by my house was $4.49. Chepest one I found around was $4.30.

Even if BLT (Bay Lake Tower??) comes out with high costs, you'll still be able to buy SSR & OKW re-sale at reasonable costs.

If a guide said so, it must be true! After all, they've got no reason to lie about such a thing, do they?

Anyway, expect prices for CRV and VGC to be noticably higher than current prices. But I don't see AKV and resale prices going up.

I honestly believe the DVC guides read these boards and are aware how much communication takes place here among the owners. I have noticed several people trying to "scoop up" last minute points at Saratoga Springs since the word is spreading that it's almost sold out. If you calculate the number of points recently sold, DVC is bringing in about $100,000 weekly from just the people on these boards alone. If that marketing scheme worked, why not say there is about to be a huge price increase soon so we better hurry up and purchase those Animal Kingdom points now. With the poor state of our economy and continuously rising fuel prices and airfares, I find it difficult to believe that a big increase is on the way. Maybe Disney is just trying to sell off remaining inventory before the Bay Lake Tower announcement. :confused3

Thanks everyone. With the state of the U.S. economy and the whatnot I couldn't quite believe what she was saying. As much as I would love to buy in right now, it might be better to wait until after our baby is born. I HATE it when DH is right! :rotfl2:
