Are the prices for Ridemakerz and/or BAB pretty close to the prices online? Or can anyone give me some sort of idea of how they compare to the online prices? I am thinking about letting my kids do these in October, but I would like at least some idea as to what to budget. TIA!!!

Thank you for posting this. We leave Friday and I was just coming on to post this same question.
Pretty sure my boy would love ridemakerz

My son did a Ridemakerz remote control car back in June. It was around $100. Build a Bear is less expensive.

We got a the basic and got 1/2 off a body with only two add ons for about $45... No remote.. But you can always go online and buy it later.. They do have a cool iron man car.. If you are flying they give you a box for your car like they do with bab....

There used to be a Ridemakerz coupon here, but I don't see it now. They may add it before your trip, though.

I got a $5 off coupon for BAB from the rack of pamphlets at DLH.

Ridemakerz is pretty neat but if you don't watch and calculate what your child (or DH!) is doing, it can easily cost a fortune. We built 4 of these on Thursday. DD6, I kept hers basic adding r/c, pink wheels, and a sticker decal pack. Cheap battery pack for $10. Her car came to $76. Now DS x2 and DH? Sigh.. Total was a ridiculous $500 for 4 r/c cars.

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

Thanks for the replies!! I am trying to think of bigger, more special souvenirs for the kids for this trip instead of them wanting a lot of "cheap" little things. I know my DS would love Ridemakerz and DD would love BAB, but I am not sure if I want to spend $100 on a remote control car. Even if it did come from Disneyland!! Maybe we will make that call while we are there. At least now I have an idea so I don't agree to it and then have to backtrack. I don't want my kids doing this :furious: at Disneyland!!

We did Ridemakerz last October. DS and DH built one each and we had a $10 coupon.

DS chose a Lightening McQueen, extra mag wheels and rims, a voice, an engine (shiny and sticks up) and cool side steps.

DH chose Bumblebee and got similar stuff, but no voice.

All up it was $189.00 (ish) for both cars including tax. We did choose not to get the battery pack though as it was cheaper to bring your own.

We have nothing like this in Australia and the boys are planning on building another car each this year.

DS has just turned 4 and his car has crashed, been taken apart to change stuff, and played with every single day and is still going strong.

They are pretty sturdy.

We just did both tonight, using a $10 off coupon at Ridemakerz (so a Lightning McQueen car cost around $40 - we didn't need the remote control as apparently we can use the one from the Mater car we made 2 years ago) and a $5 off coupon at BAB (we bought a smurf and costume from Smurfs 2, which was one of the more expensive items, but a teddy bear and costume can cost under $30). Both coupons were available in our hotel (Hojos) lobby.

Build-a-Bear Workshop is a lot of fun for the kids...and adults usually get a big kick out of making their own stuffed animal friends as well. It is a neat novelty and the steps in the process add to the appeal of the experience.
The DTD location there in Anaheim is one of the company*s flagship locations, with two floors, and is well worth visiting even if just to check it out.
There are also some fun photo ops set up that are worth exploring, exspecially if you are a BABW fan or have them in tow.

The downstairs level has a special section that has exclusive Disney outfits and fun costumes for your furry friends to wear that can only be found here.
When i was there last week, they had these great Mad Hatter and Alice outfits plus a very cool plush Stitch costume. They also had a plush Sulley costume for your bear to wear.

Also, the DTD BABW has a exclusive bear...called the *Downtown Disney Bear*...only sold at this location.
If is a medium sized teddy with dark curly fur. It has a tan muzzle and feet pads, into which a Mickey head is embroidered. The other foot has *Made Exclusively at Downtown Disney* printed on it.
The bears ears have Mickey-shaped decor in it*s inner ears.
Price - $22

I agree that BABW will likely be a most budget-minded venture for the wallet then Ridemakerz next door. You can drop a serious amount of cash there if you let your kids go nuts and just add on whatever they want.
The same can be said about BABW too...but i find the chances of that happening are more opt at Ridemakerz. The pricing is tiered slightly differently.

On average, the price for a dressed animal at BABW is around $35 to $40 dollars.
This usually includes a mid-range priced animal choice ( $16 to $18 ) with one outfit ( $11.50 - $12.00) shoes ($8) and maybe a $4 sound.

Ridemakerz tends to be signifigently more.
I find that interesting considering that both concepts are owned by the same company.

So, do these cars hold up? What kind of quality are they? My kids already have a good one from the hobby shop -- but they thought it looked REALLY cool when they saw it on the planning DVD.

My husband spent $120 on one car at Ridemakerz... :faint: I spent about $40 at BAB for my daughter.

They are certainly not high end RC cars that you would get from a hobby shop. Consider you can get into one for about $50-60 for the body and RC part added. It's about on par with the RC cars you would buy at Toys R Us. If you build a car, don't take it off a curb or you risk damaging it. My son built a Mustang and there is virtually no suspension on it. It's fun because he built it and it's semi-custom, but don't buy it to compete with a quality RC car from a hobby shop.

I have planned on doing Ridemakerz and BAB for my son and daughter in July, they each got $60 gift cards for their birthdays and they will be taking their own spending money and I let them know they will be paying for the difference their self and we will help them not go crazy (my daughter had $200 worth of stuff she wanted on BAB sit lol) I think it will be fun for Dad to help DS build a car while me and DD do BAB.

I will pass that info. along to my kids and let them decide. I think they may want to save it to put into their other cars instead -- but that's just me! :)
