I would like to take our kids on DCL, but 1st have to convince DH. I've been pricing around on-line to get an idea on $$$ before I call our travel agent, is there a different price for kids or is the extra passenger the price? Seems like a child would be cheaper than an extra adult. Our kids are 4 & 6. Thanks for any info.

Kids do pay the extra passenger price - it is actually higher if they are over 13 at time of sailing. Your TA can confirm the rates for you.

children under 12 are priced as children. Over 12, I believe they are priced as adults (used to have a "juniors" range, but I think that went away). I read/heard somewhere that 12 + teens eating habits & programming was more, so DCL decided to charge accordingly. Taxes are different for different ages. Under 5 is less by a few dollars than 6 and up, so your childrens' fares should be different. My question is: I have heard that they now charge different rates for children depending on category. one price for # 3 & 4 in lower category cabins and different price in higher category cabins. Can anyone tell me if this is so? If so, what level is the cut off? Verandahs?
Kristikelly: go on line at DCL and play around with "get a quote" put in 2 adult passengers, then 3 (2 A, 1 4 yer old); then 4 people (2 A, 4 & 6 year old ) to get a general idea of the prices before you talk to anyone.

We just put a deposit down for the Oct. 30th Eastern on the Magic with AAA.
Gar. Cat. 11, 2 adults $749 each, 2 children, 7 and 11 at cruise time, $399 each. We also get $100 onboard credit for booking with AAA during January (Disney Month) and unlimited soda drink mugs, luggage tags, gift basket in stateroom, and and a discount card for 10% off float, snorkel, and non-motorized watercraft rental at Castaway Cay and merchandise at Treasure Ketch duty free ($75 min at Treas.Ketch) The total with tax was $2489.40, plus we added travel insurance which was $176, grand total, $2665.40 for a family of 4 for a seven night Disney cruise. I thought it was a pretty good deal. We were originally going with a Cat. 9, but the cabins they had were far forward and DH gets seasick, figured we may as well save $200 and go with the luck of the draw. The other rates they offered were, Cat 9 - $849 adults, Cat 6 - $1199 per adult, the children's rates were the same, $399 ages 3-12. The time of year we are going is normally the off season for price. Other times of year can be much higher. Good luck.

We booked at Cat 10 for our first Disney cruise in Nov 2001,
4 night, and your prices seem like they are right in line with what we got. Have a great trip, bet your next one will be 7 nights to.

The extra passenger (child) price for the 7 night cruise CAN be higher for some categories, but it is not consistent. When the cost variance is in place, it is always for the more expensive cabins. Usually, I've seen the cutoff at Category 7 (where the higher child price kicks in), but I've also noticed cruises where the price differential is higher as low as Category 10.

When the price difference is in place, the difference can be quite substantial. I've seen where the child price on a category 11 is about $350 and the higher categories charge as much as $550-$650 per extra child. However, the costs are different for just about every cruise. To gain a better understanding of these price changes, review the cruise prices on this travel agency site (If you look a the late summer - fall, 2004 dates, you'll see quite a few examples):

I've only seen this price difference for the 7-night cruises. Disney doesn't appear to discriminate on "added child" prices for the 3/4-night sailings. There are plenty 7-night sailings without a price differential as well.

If you are booking 2 rooms, it will be to you advantage to list your added children on the lower priced room.
