Priceline When You Need Two Beds??

Thanks everyone. I'm going to rebid again tonight. The weather is supposed to be beautiful Thursday and Friday in Savannah. I sure would like to be at the river those days! I'll let you know what happens on the rebid this evening.

We have used Priceline before and only once had a huge problem. Priceline only guarantees you a room for 2 people. When we checked in with 2 kids the place wanted to charge me an extra $70 per night for the 2 additional kids.

After that we always had only one of us check in and ask for 2 beds and then go to the room.

BTW: I always try to get Marriotts.

Hope it all works out and hope you love Savannah! Report back and tell us how it works out.

I think it depends on one (maybe two) things. The biggest factor is what city you are trying. Is it a family destination? Do most people travel with more than 2 people?? In those cases, you would most likely get a 2 bed room. These are places like Orlando. But, if its a city that couples might enjoy, like NY or Chicago, then your chances are decreased of getting a 2 bed room. Not impossible, but decreased probability. As someone mentioned earlier, I would be hesitant in a historic district.

DH and I bid for a room in downtown Chicago for a birthday night for DH. We stayed downtown and went to dinner. In that case, we got a one bed room. (Although I might have requested a king bed. I don't remember.)

The second potential problem is if you get a front desk employee who is having a bad day. Kind of like the poster mentioned earlier. He thought her price was ridiculous (:rotfl2: ) so wanted to cause problems. Its not like she forced them to give that price!!! The hotel is the one who offered it!! Why is he mad?? Did they take the difference out of his pay????

Good luck. I've done hotwire once in Orlando and figured we'd make due if we got one room. Luckily it wasn't a problem.

Just remember that for most hotel chains, even when you book directly online or thru the hotel, the bedding is just a request, not guaranteed. The difference with a Priceline booking is that you have prepaid. However, in many cases walking away from a hotel reservation if you are not satisfied withthe room may not be an attractive option in any event.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
