So, I replied to a post in the transportation forum, and then thought that maybe not everyone had heard. On Sept. 1 Priceline stopped accepting Name Your Own Price for air travel.
Speculation on some travel boards is that car and hotel bidding may soon follow. This did not get a lot of press -- a google search shows limited coverage and while I searched this forum, I also did not see it mentioned -- except in the post I replied to earlier today.
So, if you are thinking about bidding, maybe do it sooner than later (and of course, in 15 years, Priceline will still be accepting car and hotel bids and all the experts will have been wrong).
Only reason I realized it is I went to Priceline to make a bid on my semi-annual flight to visit relatives. I always get accepted and save about 30-40 percent on fares that I can find myself.
Of course, the route is not that busy and I KNOW I will always get the first flight out in the morning going and the first flight out in the morning returning on one of the two airlines serving the route (UAL or AL), which works well for me.
