I have to make a last-minute trip of sorts to a relative in another state.

Leaving middle of next week and returning three days later.

Airfares were $440 and up across the board.

Thought I would give Priceline a try. Was able to snag a fare that was 37 percent cheaper than the lowest I could find otherwise.

One connection/stop but that's O.K. as there are no direct flights anyway out of these small airports I am talking about.

AND, times were exactly what I would have picked myself....

Every once in awhile, Priceline works for a flight.:)

Of course car rentals are $35 per day and up for a compact....:sad1:

I use Priceline often for car rentals. One of the best features of Priceline IMHO. The flights and hotels can be a crapshoot. With car rentals it really doesn't matter which of the major companies you get since they are all about the same.

Up until about three years ago or so, Priceline was wonderful for cars.

But, as I said, starting a few years ago, I can never find a good car deal.

Hotels YES. Occassionally, flights, but cars, no.

Trying to reserve a car for this next trip and I am getting better rates on my own. Tried bidding yesterday and today and getting nothing reasonable (they keep suggesting I try $37 per day -- right now I have a $25 per day rate with all taxes, etc.).

They reject my $20 per day bid....

Awesome! so I have never used Priceline for flights, is there anyway of losing when you use Priceline? for instance I do not care what time we fly I just want to fly on the day I want, it will be for two days before our cruise. One ways from PDX to MCO are around 200.00 we only need one ways since it is a Transatlantic. Any Idea how cheap we could get? Thank you

Priceline says you can save up to 40 percent....so start at 45 percent of what you are seeing and work down (or is that up;))

Don't you need to return to PDX? Check open jaw (multi city) air fare. Use a site like http://www.hipmunk.com/flights-search

A PP mentioned using PL for renting a car. Book conventionally and many of us can use a discount promotion which includes an additional driver. Use PL and an additional driver fee (if one is needed) can wipe out your savings.
