Has anyone ever rented a car through priceline? I'm looking into a month long car rental for the LA area and thought I might give priceline a try.

I've made bids on Priceline for rental cars but have never won. Be sure to check for rental prices first, using any discount codes that you are eligible for. I've always found the best price this way. Also, you can check Hotwire, but again, I've always been able to beat their prices using discount codes with the rental agency.

Good luck!

We rent thru priceline all the time and typically get much better deals than directly through the rental car company. Search the company sites and travelocity, etc so you know what the going rates are....and then decide what price lower than that you are comfortable with. If you low-ball, priceline will typically caution you that it is unlikely you will win your bid. Also, you can only bid once every seven days on the same car specifications. In other words, if your price is not accepted, to bid on the exact car again, you have to wait 7 days.

I got an email from them last week, stating several cities had successful bids of 17/day. My son and DH are going to Orlando in 2 weeks and we're going to try for that...supposedly, they do business with the top five.

If I'm not successful, I know I've had luck with mousesavers codes and can get 24/day. Not as good, but better than nothing.

Poohnatic, are those final prices with fees/taxes? Because I currently have a compact car from Dollar (I think) for $105 per week, $141 total. This was regular rate. I used a code, but then checked again w/out code and got the same rate. You can get a little cheaper from Payless, but I just had such a hassle from them with my last rental last week that I didn't want to deal with them again.

Goodstarr -- For long-term rentals, you might do better with local companies if you can call around (companies that won't be on Priceline, Travelocity, etc.) I know a friend of mine got a monthly rental in St Pete for $500 when he was waiting for his new car to get shipped in.
