How far out do you place a bid for a hotel stay on priceline?

Also, if I want near Downtown Disney, what area should I request?

We need (2) rooms (4 adults/2 children) for one night - Jan. 15, 2011. I have used priceline for car rentals, but haven't tried them for a hotel stay.

For January, it's safe to say you can bid now, however, you may eliminate some hotels from the equation this early on. I do believe some hotels will only release inventory closer to January. If you want to be close to Downtown Disney, you need to select LBV. I've stayed at 2 hotels that were listed in the LBV area on Priceline over this past year. I booked the Resort level and won at Hyatt Grand Cypress and Hilton Bonnet Creek. Both resorts were great stays.

Good luck with your bidding.

Priceline rates are non-refundable, so I would wait until much closer to bid on one. Track what people are getting on biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com

The one thing I don't like about the Priceline bid system is they can "upgrade" you to a higher star hotel if they want even though in reality the lower star hotels in the area are better than the higher one.For example using betterbidding.com I bid on a 2.5 star hotel room and knowing there were only a couple of 2.5 star hotels in that area and I liked them all I would be happy.I did this the first time and just as I expected it was one of those hotels and I loved it,everything about the hotel was great.About two months later I placed the same bid,2.5 stars same location and to my surprise they "upgraded" me to a 3 star hotel that nobody can tell me is a better hotel than the ones they have at 2.5 stars. It seems like this is a backup hotel to get people to think they're getting a better deal which in reality is not. They should give you the option of getting "upgraded" or not.
