Priced out

Wow.

Great responses from all. A fascinating read.

The disboard posts have changed their tempo lately regarding DCL. :scratchin

Is there anymore dedicated total DCL customers here. :duck:

DCL has done a lot in the past 5 years or so to alienate all the platinum sailors.
Now they are alienating all the new sailors with crazy prices.

I can count on one hand the Disboard veterans who still only sail DCL on this site. IMO.

I hope DCL still reads these boards.

Best Wishes to all Regardless of Vessel.

All cruise lines offer these discount, not near the huge percentage off. Carnival gave us like 5% off. Carnival at 5% off is still less than dcl at 50% off. I think dcl sending out that survey about their European cruise is probably a good indication they are not selling.
I don't know why people get would get irritated by industry discounts. After all you chose to pay what you paid no- body forced you. If your unhappy with what your paying don't pay it. DCL will lower prices when people stop booking.

Actually on both our last Carnival cruise and on our Princess cruise, we caught it when the sale was $35% off. The prices were amazing, but it only lasted a week. You've got to check almost weekly, even daily, to see if they have thrown up any last minute deals. I've never seen Disney give 50% off -- unless that is for second passenger. Guess I missed that one.

I was looking at RCCL as I have not cruised with them yet....and while they do have lots of "discounts"..they actually inflate their prices, and when you price it out with their discount, it's actually close to most cruise line industry standards (still WAY below DCL pricing)...so you have to really know the ships, prices and itineraries to understand a good deal. Since cruising is a hobby, I'm pretty familiar with the pricing of cruise lines that I haven't even been on yet and I did see an amazing price for RCCL Oasis ship for March of 2018. Their balcony prices are tiered depending if you choose a Central park balcony (lowest price) Boardwalk (middle) Ocean view (highest)...I would only be interested in an Ocean view balcony as I cruise for the ocean experience and don't want to be looking into other people's balconies during my vacation...so I priced out this cruise, which happens to fall on Spring Break and an Oceanview balcony is priced the same or just a nominal amount higher than the other ones, so that is a good deal. The same week on the Allure, the oceanview balcony is $800 higher...so the Oasis is a steal at $2300 for 7 days on an Oceanview balcony! This is with the 30% deal they have going on right now.

I'm tempted to book and finally try RCCL.

We booked RCCL Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston for October 2017 in 2 connecting promenade view cabins. A couple days after we booked it I looked into doing the Carnival Breeze instead and was shocked the Breeze was actually a little bit more expensive. We're pretty excited to try RCCL.

I'm just grateful that I'm lucky enough to have the privilege of cruising for family vacations, and will sail as often as possible on any cruise line, before my teens graduate and move on with their lives.

What week were you looking at? I was literally just pricing March 2018 on an Oasis class ship minutes ago. My problem is I only want to sail the Caribbean again if the itinerary includes St. Maarten (I have to go to the beach where the planes fly overhead!). Right now Allure for March 2017 has an itinerary that falls on the kiddo's spring break AND is kids sail free. So it's about $3100 for the 3 of us. I'm getting about $1000 more for March 2018. We've got an amazing 10-night Med cruise planned for March 2017, but I'm getting a little nervous about heading to Europe with all that is going on (both there and here with the election). So I'm wondering if I should just grab the Allure while the price is good and try the Med in 2018. The kiddo is 9 now, so maybe waiting a year on the Med would be better. I'm so confused now :)

This doesn't go to St. Maarten...Yes, I will be trying out Maho beach in December when I sail on the Vista....Going to get a day pass at one of the resorts that's right on Maho beach.

The cruise below is a Western Carib Itinerary....I haven't been to Labadee yet, so new port for me. As for the other's...I might stay on the ship as I'm sure there is lots to discover on the Oasis. I am looking at the March 18th cruise.

Nice, they added new waterslides on the Liberty. Check out JimZim.net. He has a complete review of the Liberty....he has a TON of well done reviews of many ships..both Carnival and RCCL.

Gotcha. We need the next week in order for the kiddo to not miss school. I really want to try an Oasis-class ship though, so I'll have to figure something out.

Oh, and I hear ya about Europe. I'm glad I went this year in June (I did an Eastern Med itinerary)....all the news is turning me off...at least for the near future....

Check out where it goes the next week, It usually switches East/West itineraries. My kid is off on that week...we're a bit early this year and next with Spring Break.

Oh look at that, it goes to St. Maarten the week you want.

It is actually the itinerary I want the next week, but the price is $1000 higher than 2017 on Allure. I think I'll call my agent and book Allure for next year. I don't have to make up my mind on Europe until December, so maybe I'll just hold both cruises for a while. Too many choices!

Book Allure for 2017, then in 2018 you can do Europe on the new Carnival Horizon, sister to Vista which was amazing! Bookings for Horizon should start in December or January. I never thought I'd enjoy Carnival as much as I did, it was great, with a wonderful crew.

Ah yes, the Horizon will start out in Europe....so many decisions, as Jen said.....lol

Have they decided where yet? Is it the Med again? I would love if they did some Northern European cruises, maybe with a few British Isles or Iceland itineraries.

Edited to add that we have 3 cruises booked for 2017 and not one of them is Disney. I have a non-refundable deposit for DCL that I've been moving around for a few years. I may just continue to move it until the new ships start sailing . ;)

I do not get how the us election affects going to the med?

Do you think the prices will be good on the new ship? Our 10-night on NCL is $3100 for the 3 of us and we got the dining package and excursion credit. It just seems so incredibly cheap!
