Price of room at the Polynesian in 1980??

The world of the Disney resorts seemed smaller then -- due, I suppose, to the fact that there were only five resorts.

Anyone ever stay at the Golf Resort/Disney Inn?

On our first visit there was still just 4 resorts: CR, Poly, Golf Resort and Fort Wildnerness. Although I have friends who visited when it was only Poly and CR.

If a room was not available at Poly or CR there was always room in the Cabins or Golf Resort...remember when the name was changed to the Disney Inn so guests would feel it was more "Disney"?

Back then it was hard to sell that resort because there was no monorail - campers had reason to enjoy the cabins or campground, but not much draw to a resort just about across from the Poly and no monorail.

These are great memories (as you can tell by all my posts!!). LOL

Thanks everyone!

Back in the very early 80's, my family stayed at a Hilton outside of WDW because my parents never thought they could afford to stay on the WDW property.

Out of curiousity one day during our stay, they called & were quoted $79 per night - they were paying $100 per night at the Hilton!!!! :faint:

They decided not to make a move because we were already settled, but I can still remember their shock & I was about 10 at the time.

Reviving because a co-worker discussed his memories of staying at the Contemporary for $70 a night in 1981.

I know that it could not have been much more than $75-$80 per night. We would go for 7 nights. We didn't have alot of money, but we weren't poor, either. And today, I have so much more than I did then and I can't spend $300-350 per night to stay there again!! I guess I got cheap in my old age!! So I'm a DVC member instead!!:cool1:

Some day, I'd like to splurge and do a couple of days at the Poly again...

I have our receipt from 1974, $35.00 per night. We stayed in Fiji. Two years ago we went back to the Poly, again stayed in Fiji. It was so much fun remembering our first trip. Our first trip we stayed 5 nights and there was only one park. On our last stay the price was just over $200 per night with a discount code. I remember planning our first trip and worrying over spending $35 per night when we could have stayed outside and paid $19.99. So glad we splurged!

We were there in 1982. My parents booked about two weeks before, a last minute cancellation they managed to snag...had been calling for months they said....we got a garden view room for 110 a night....which seems so expensive to my mom because she said the Days Inn was $23 a night.....

My parents stayed at the Contemporary in 1974 for their honeymoon and it was $35 a night.

Wow -- I sure loved the downstairs Contemporary game room back in the 70s too. I told my son all about it, before my first stay as a grown up here and I was disappointed to see the replacement (I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see changes 30 to 40 years later). I still loved staying at this resort with my family though.

At the age of 2 i stayed in a lagoon view room at the Poly ......Year 1975....Month October......Price............42.00 per night.....My mom still has the reciept in a photo album....she wrote in the album it was the highest theyve ever paid for a hotel but it was worth it........WOW times have changes...also have some sweet film real footage of the pool,,has a slide that ended like 5 feet from the surface of the water...Guess the lawyers werent around in 1975

In 1992 my husband and I stayed at the Poly in a club room. The price was heavily discounted (in January) for about $170. The Hawaii building was still the club level but the club lounge with snacks and such was in the front of the lobby (where I believe there is an art gallery now). I believe we even took a DVC tour that visit but did not buy. The price was, of course, very low.:confused3
