There are THREE kinds of express, and they are as follows:
FREE EXPRESS: This is the kind you get from the machines around the park. Anyone with an admission ticket of any kind (one day, multi-day, AP, etc) can get them. You go to the Express machines and swipe your ticket. Choose the appropriate attraction (if there is more than one available), then choose the time you want to reserve your express for. A ticket will print out with the time and the computer will show you when you can get your next express pass. Yo can get one every 1-2 hours.
EXPRESS PLUS (paid express): This is the kind of express you buy. The ticket you get looks identical to a park ticket. The cost varies per season, and the types of tickets vary. During the slow season, the more expensive combo express is available. It is good at both parks. During all seasons, the express plus available is for the park you buy it in ONLY and valid on that day ONLY. Studio express plus cannot be used at IOA. Islands express plus cannot be used at USF. The express plus allows ONE express admission per attraction in the park listed on the ticket.
ROOM KEY EXPRESS: If you're staying at the RPR, HRH, or PBH, your room key is your express pass. Everyone must have theirs with them, as there are often multiple checkpoints. Room keys are valid at both parks, and there is no limit to how many times you can use this perk in an hour/day.
All above listed forms of express go in the same line: the Express line, which is indicated at the front of each attraction.
