Price of Adding on Direct

I don't disagree but not being able to book DCL or ABD or anything beyond the 12 DVC resorts could be an issue for many people.

Why?

I compare it to airline miles. I can get a round trip, first class ticket from LA to Paris, with an optional stop-over in New York. Or, for the same points, I can trade for three nights at a Hampton Inn in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The trade value is so terrible, nobody in their right mind would ever consider it unless they were at risk of losing the points. And, even then, I'd rather give away the first-class ticket to a friend (and gain the good will) than cash in for grossly devalued option.

And, by the way, even resale can trade through RCI, so nobody is locked in to just the 12 DVC resorts.

Why?

Because, regardless of whether it is a good use of points or not (an I agree it is not), many people still want to be able to book DCL/ABD/DLP, etc. on points.

Just because you or I wouldn't doesn't mean it might not be a deal breaker for others.

Just got a call from our guide. When we went on wait list, a few weeks back, we went on for June OR Aug UY and got the June UY points a week after being on WL. Well, they still had us on the Aug list and our guide just called to see, she knew we already got our points but she wanted to double check, if we wanted these 55 Aug UY points. What to do...what to do???? So tempting. Wanted more BWV points but would prefer same June UY. And we don't really have the $$ for 55 points...maybe 25-30???

This is good news! We are on the waiting list for 35 BWV August Use Year points. So hopefully there will be some leftover for us.

We are taking just 25...if we can get June now, we want that but if not we'll go for the Aug...we are waiting to hear back. So, you might be in luck!!!

ETA: No June so we did take 25 Aug. Fingers crossed they had more than 55 and you were after me on the list.

Well, our guide didn't contact us so I'm guessing not...
Not a problem, I really don't need the points any time soon. I already went on a bit of a 'shopping spree' and acquired 260 points resale in the last month which nearly doubled what we've had for the past 10 years. So I can wait patiently to get my 35.

We didn't need any either. We started with 200 in 2006 and have added on 305 more since Jan 2012...7 contracts in total (added 2 in 2012...2 in 2013 and now 2 in 2014...I see a pattern). Actually, I really think we are good for a while....goodness hope so...need help for this adonitis. I hope you get a call soon. I know it does take them time to go down the wait list plus your guide might have been off today. Hoping you get the call tomorrow.

So there are waiting lists for points?? That is cool. If you do get a call and if you don't have the money at that time to buy do you go to the bottom of the waiting list??

We didn't need any either. We started with 200 in 2006 and have added on 305 more since Jan 2012...7 contracts in total (added 2 in 2012...2 in 2013 and now 2 in 2014...I see a pattern). Actually, I really think we are good for a while....goodness hope so...need help for this adonitis. I hope you get a call soon. I know it does take them time to go down the wait list plus your guide might have been off today. Hoping you get the call tomorrow.

Congrats on your points! We called our guide today and told her to switch us to 50 VGF points. I completely blame you.tube. I spend way too much time watching WDW resort videos. We love the Grand Floridian and I tried my hardest not to add on there. I'll see what I can do with my 100 BWV resale points for a while and can always put myself on the waiting list again next year or keep my eyes open for a small resale BWV contract in our use year. But I think we are pretty much done adding on points. Only thing that could change that would be my DH loving VGF too much. But then we'd likely sell our SSR points to buy more VGF. Hoping this cures my addonits as well - maybe a support group is needed!

Oooh...lucky!! VGF looks so nice. All those trip reports and pics our fellow MOs keep posting make me swoon too. But, we are big on point conserving so it makes VGF a no-go for us. But, gawsh, those villas look lovely...maybe we'll get a night or 2 in one someday. Congrats!!!

Oh, and I am in need of that support group too!!!

Not sure...we used Disney Visa. In March we paid deposit when points came through and then remainder a couple weeks later (charged to our CC). This time we just paid total when we got our points (charged on CC). And we are getting tons of rewards dollars (we have premier CC). Between adding these 2 contracts and paying for our MF in Jan and buying PAPs for 4 of us (plus doing some construction on our house and using Disney Visa for that too)...I am going to WDW in Aug with @ $450 on my rewards card. That will pay a big chunk of our meals.
