Anyone else get this email today? wow...
<<<<As a valued part of our Member community, we wanted to let you know that now is a great time to Add On to your Disney Vacation Club Membership at the current price of $130 per vacation point at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas or $160 per vacation point at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort before those prices increase to $135 and $165, respectively, on July 15, 2012. >>>

Sorry if this is old news and I missed it.

I'll tell you what, I'm looking to add on at some point myself, and they're making it harder and harder to justify purchasing direct. For Pete's sake, you can get BLT points via resale right now for $70 less than the new price!

Keep in mind that this is the typical timeshare pricing structure, where as the resort sells out over time the prices continue to go up. Although I'm not expecting VGF to be a bargain, my guess is that the prices will be less than the current BLT direct prices. If you're going to go direct, get in early or don't bother. Resale prices on the other hand, don't go up based on an artificial, set schedule but are based on the principles of economics.

I'll take that bet. Current BLT is $160 goint to $165. Loser buys the winner "refreshments" during a trip after VGF opens. :rolleyes1

I just checked my email and yes I did get. I guess it's a good thing I don't want either one of those resorts. not yet anyway

This is just the continuation of the numerous and planned increases over the last 1 1/2 years so that when they introduce GFV at around $170 or $175, many will believe it is not an increase of any significance.

I got this email too. So glad that we purchased AKV this past April...it was a direct purchase for $125/pt.. 10 points seems like a big jump in just 3 months!

Well, that's a good point, let's hope you're right.

Still, though, I bought into DVC direct 1 year ago this week at BLT, and after all of the incentives, it was $110/point. With that being the case, $165 is pretty jarring.

 Yep, they are pricing me out of direct and right over into re-sale. We will add-on and at this price with our economics, it CAN'T be Disney Direct.

$135 and $165 a point is CRAZY EXPENSIVE! We spent about $46,000 on points divided between 4 contracts. I think we were pretty lavish, but then again, we have used almost all our 2013 points and are usually borrowed out a year. Anyway, we would get LESS THAN HALF the number of points we have now at these prices. It would be hard to buy enough points to get a 2BR every year for a week.

I have had many, many wonderful vacations to WDW, but I am getting a little jaded over the expense today between ticket prices, DVC points, and the cost of restaurant food. Gosh, even a Mickey bar has gone up almost 30% in the last couple years. It just seems out of balance.

I have to say I'm pretty surprised the market is bearing these types of increases. I bit the bullet and put in for 65 more at VGC at $130...crazy...but specific point and use year contracts are just not in the resale market, and VGC hs a 4-6 month purchase waitlist direct. They really are making resale much more attractive and the perks they've taken away from resale really don't justify the price difference. I got all my previous points, direct, right at $100 and guess that looks like a bargain now.

I'm glad someone mentioned this because it confirms my suspicions. This is why I was hesitant to buy at a WDW resort. I know over time ticket prices plus flights would lead to me not going very often. I bought Aulani because I love Hawaii and know I will go, but only enough points to go every other year because of flight costs. I'm waiting for VGC because I'm only 60 miles away and can afford to get there and go there on my cheapie southern CA select AP.

I think if one can easily afford what goes with a Disney trip, these point increases probably won't mean much to them. What's the highest price per point anyone has seen? Is this it?

I sure hope you are right. The longer they wait to start selling the more and more I question if I should buy VGF. I really want to, but DVC is sure going to make the decision difficult with their out of control price increases.

I also wonder what the point cost per night is going to be??

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think their price increases are that out of whack with other timeshare company offerings. They may be accelerated a bit faster, but most timeshare direct sales have this ever increasing scale. I think the lesson to be learned is that if you are going to buy direct...buy at the initial offering price.

First, if you own now, you should love seeing $165! I paid $96 just 2 years ago for BLT, so from an invstor's POV, it's amazing. This also should speak to the value we'll get if we trade out to RCI or others because the DVC point value is so high. It's all good for us.
But if you want a deal, the best time might be WHEN the VGF goes on sale. Demand will be super high for the new property, so it will reduce demand on others. When I paid $96 for BLT, they were whoring out SS at $80!! Today, it's much more than that. Right? So look for the opportunities. They will come.

Just because Disney has raised the price of BLT, doesn't mean you can't still get BLT on the resale market for $70-$80 per point. The only change with higher direct prices is more people will be stuck and unable to sell their contracts because their loan payoff is for so much more than their contract is worth.
