How can you take offense that people are using points they have purchased in a way that is perfectly okay via the contract that every
DVC member signs? We live in a capitalistic society. It's the system that has allowed all of us to make enough money to afford DVC in the first place. Why all the whining when others do what they have every right to do?
I am not talking about people who bought into DVC expressly to try and sell points for profit. I think I remember reading that that is forbidden by our contract.
I don't know if selling a reservation rather than points is playing dirty or not. I know I think that many legal businesses are immoral, but they are legal. Selling a reservation is "legal." I also can't believe this practice has a huge impact on getting a reservation for people who plan ahead. Sorry, but anyone buying into DVC should quickly get the message that last minute planning is unwise when they hear about the 11 and 7 month windows. No rocket science involved.
The mantra on this board is BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY. If you don't like the availability of accomodations at the 7 month window, buy at another resort. I have not heard of many reservations that are truly unavailable if you plan ahead and call at the first opportunity you have (with the exception of GV's, that is).
As for jacking up the price, this is America. If someone's willing to pay it, then that's what it's worth. Would you tell a potential buyer of your home that it's really worth less than they want to pay you? Get real.
I have rented points in the past in order to pay cash for a cruise. My husband recently lost his job, so I may be renting out more points in an effort to hold onto our DVC at all. I probably won't make a reservation just to rent it out, but you have no right to judge how I or others use points we have purchased.
