Price Buying from Disney

I have an April use year and we just added on to our wilderness lodge points. We got the 2006 points and I called this morning and banked them. My guide told me to call as soon as they were in the system.

How many did they let you bank?

I'm thinking of 150 at SSR.

Disney will not charge you closing costs on your add-on, and your dues will be pro-rated the first year based on the day you get the points in your account (which is usually 24 hours after you pay for them.)

Are you likely to get current year points for the more popular (resale) and/or smaller resorts (BC/BW/VWL)? If so, this makes a huge difference when comparing to resale contracts.

Disney does not sell "stripped" add-ons. If you purchase additional points at any DVC resort directly from Disney, you get a full set of current-use-year points with your contract. The fact that you get the current-UY points and that you can bank the points are both significant.

We have a Feb UY...we added on 115 SSR points on 1/20 (the last day of the $86/point promotion)...we got 115 '06 points, which we had til 1/31 to bank (100%)--I banked them on 1/22, the day the points showed up in my account...then we got another 115 points on Feb 1...so we got 115 "extra" points, that we banked, with only 11 days left in our UY...it was just an irresistable deal...I'm REALLY glad we did it!

Maybe not for add-ons, but I know when looking for an initial purchase back in Oct/Nov, they did not include current yr SSR points for several use years (not just the offered Dec UY) and I was told that the inclusion of current yr points "depended on availability". Lack of current yr points was a big factor in my choosing a "loaded" resale contract rather than buying direct. I just did not know how often this actually occurs (no current yr points included) though.

I'm not at all familiar with purchasing at new resorts. My recent add-on at AKV is my first experience with that. But I haven't heard any reports of not getting current-year points with add-ons. But it's always a good idea to ask your guide about this, both whether you are getting the points and whether you can bank them.

When I purchased my Add-On back at BCV in 2002, I got them... I am goiong to phone my guide today to see... Like I said I am more interested in SSR than AKV if I can get a better deal... If I can get a full 2006 UY points plus a discount per point, that's a better deal.
