We are taking our first cruise in Nov. and as I am packing, I am seeing potential for a lot of wrinkling. Can anyone tell me the cost of having our clothes pressed onboard and how long it will take to have them returned. I have read that there are laundry rooms where I could do my own ironing, but I am wondering more about the formalwear....suits and sequins, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

pressing is not expensive. i just used it for our sept cruise. i sent a whole pile and the bill was 30 bucks, that included some dry cleaning as well.

I took the suggestion of a fellow cruiser and put each garment in a dry cleaner bag; stacked them all on top of one another and closed the suitcase. When I reopened the suitcase on the cruise, the clothes were in perfect condition with the exception of one pair of DH's trousers, which when I hung them in the bathroom at shower time, the steam took care of it. Now I want to add, that was after being in those bags, in the suitecase for 4 days, as our cruise was the delayed 9-25-04 Western (didn't get on the ship until Monday, 9-27). So the bags worked like a charm for me! If you end up with wrinkles you could always send out for ironing. Hope that helps!

There is a "pressing only" service at 50% of dry cleaning cost.
Regular Service is next day by 5 pm
Same day service add 50% of dry cleaning (picked up before 9am and returned by 5 PM)
Express Service add 100% of dry cleaning (call for pickup, returned in 3 hours)

We give them the items that we want pressed immediately after unpacking. They'll get them back to you by 5:00pm the following day.

I also pack a pressing cloth. The irons in the laundry tend to be very hot. By using the cloth, it protects the clothes from being fried.

Pressing is 1/2 the dry cleaning price. Not expensive at all.

We through everything in the suitcase (well tried to pack kind of carefully, knowing it really wasn't going to matter). When we got to our cabin..we took everything that was wrinkled, through it in a laundry bag, marked everything for pressing only. It was back the next morning. Looking great and we were ready for the week. We will definately do this on every cruise. Our total came to around $27, and that was almost everything for hubby and 3/4 of my stuff.

We kept the least wrinkled outfit for dinner the first night..not a problem at all.

Don't waste your precious cruise time in the laundry room. You paid a lot for the cruise..you might as well enjoy all of it.

Roll your clothes - this will prevent much of the wrinkling. Also we take a hanging garment bag for cruises and all our formal attire.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information!! And thanks GenieDana for the price listing! I hope after my cruise that I will be able to pass on my expertise to newbies also....Thanks again:wave2: This site has been so wonderful for a first-timer to learn from!!!

Downy wrinkle release works pretty well too. I'm not super picky about wrinkles and the release was good enough for me!

Thanks for the Downey wrinkle release hint, tkd lisa. DD has a satin dress for formal night....will it work for that, or does it have a tendency to spot some fabrics??

Who cares if you're wrinkled? You're on vacation, right? Besides, aren't wrinkles supposed to add character? :rotfl:

Amen!

Set yourself free!

Wash your clothes, pack them, pull them out. What you need to press send out the first day.

Of all the costs for the cruise (air, cruise, excursion, tips, gifts, etc) the $20 - %50 for laundry and pressing to free yourself from hours in the laundry room is SO WORTH IT!

I agree, its VACATION!!! I am not doing laundry and no way ironing!!!

We sent some clothes out to get pressed the first day & got them back the next.

You all have been great!! I am going to put drycleaner bags on the clothes, send out what I need to be pressed, steam the rest in the shower and Downy spray what I can...LOL . I am just kind of frugal, and after 40 years of marriage, rather used to doing it all myself. I guess it is about time to let it all go and enjoy the cruise!!! Woo Hoo!! :teeth: Thanks so much for all the help and advice!!!:wave2:

The Downy Wrinkle release does a good job, but it's for cottons. I wouldn't use it on evening wear.
