Is it safe to put pressed pennies on a page? I may sound stupid, but... do I need to "treat" them with anything first, like an acid-free spray, or conceal them in a pouch? I'd prefer to just put them on a pop-dot as-is.

thanks!

I stick them on my pages with pop dots. If you were concerned about them you could give them a shot of clear coat.

You might be able to find the small plastic envelopes to put them in. I found a package with assorted sizes at the local LSS, I believe that they were made by EK Success. The set that I bought has a couple of larger ones that are the right size for something like a room key and the two smaller ones would be great for the pennies, that is what I am going to use mine for. They have Mickey head snaps to close them.

A couple of my pennies are actually pointy and sharp on one end. I'd be a little careful of that so they don't poke holes through your paper or sheet protector when the book is closed.

I use the clear envelopes if I have any question if something is "safe" for my scrapbook. Someone should make up a website that would list everything and if it is safe and if not how to treat it.

Pennies used to be mostly copper with some zinc, now they are copper-plated zinc. Copper does not corrode easily but zinc is more active and might be exposed in the pressing operation. Unless it is an older penny I would coat it.

I would not be surprised if some small amount of oil is on the pressed penny either, at least wash it with soap and water before putting it on a page.

Ah-Ha! thank you SO much! Now I know why I went through the effort of soaking and scrubbing all my pre-1982 pennies!!! I shouuld be fine, we knew the zinc portion could streak and thus all the pennies we use are older, cleaned and scrubbed ones! PLus I DID clean them again before applying them to the page. Thanks so much!!!!

I've just adhered them to the pages with Glue Dots and just made sure that they weren't touching any of my photos. I haven't had any problems with them tearing into the protector - but I'm also a "lumpy" scrapper so I have other things that can go into the protector :lmao:

I would put them in a small protector. Creative Memories sells memorabilia pockets that come in a small variety of sizes. The smaller sizes would fit the penny nicely
