Can someone please fill me in on the pressed pennies/coins thing??

I have seen these type of machines before, but are they more special at WDW?

Which coins will they press?

How much does it cost?

And how much is the book where you can store your collection?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated since I'm very new to the whole Disney experience.

TiA!!! :wave2:

I have seen both quarter and penny presses at WDW..
they cost 51 cents for the pennies and I believe $1.25 for the quarter (not positive)
The books are $3.00 to hold them
They are a neat and fairly inexpensive souvenier at Disney..

They have coin-press machines scattered throughout the parks and they press either pennies or quarters. The coin presses at Disney are all Disney. For instance, there are ride themed presses (Mission: Space, Test Track, Tower of Terror, etc.). Then there are generic Disney ones as well and other special presses. I believe the hotels also have the coin presses.

The penny press will cost a total of 51 cents (2 quarters and a penny). I think the quarter press is $1.25. As for the coin holder, it was between 6 and 8 dollars. I can't exactly remember the cost because I quickly looked at it. I am sure someone else can help you out.

Thanks for the info!! :thumbsup2

Will we need to save up our change for these machines or do they accept dollar bills (to pay for the pressing...I realize the machine will of course need the penny/quarter to press)

:) MaryBeth

They don't take dollar bills. Coins add weight to your pack quickly, though, so I usually try to start the day with a roll or two of quarters and ask for more if I need them. The pennies I bring with me because I try to only use pre-1982 pennies since they won't tarnish black like the newer ones. But that's me being picky. :)

The penny machines added an extra focus for our DD 5 years ago Not only looking for hidden mickey but penny machines tucked away in shoppes. I agree the pre 82 pennies are the best but what we wound up doing was going to the bank for a minted roll. Our DD saved the qtrs for her favorite characters and pennied everything else. she is already talking about adding to her collection.

We did this extensively for our kids last May. All the info above is great, I would just add that you can stop at any of the main guest service locations at each park (like Town Hall in Magic Kingdom) and ask for the latest copy of the pressed coin locations and they will give you the most current list.

DH & I enjoyed pressing pennies in DL last summer. Here's a fun tip. Get an M & M minis tube and fill it with layers of two quarters and then one penny. M & M minis are sold with the candy bars at stores and are packaged in a little round tube with a flip top. Having your coins readily available saves time when there are lines a the pressed penny machines.

I was just going to post this! I totally agree...We have one tube for each child and they will carry them in their *Fanny packs* (I know I know lol). It makes it so you don't have a bunch of loose change and it also hold QUITE a bit.

we have the pennies ones from many many many different vactions, not just disney but like las vegas, fla, new york etc etc etc

We collect them from every place we go..but of course they are more special at WDW...thats because they're from WDW.!!!..lol ;)

This is a great souvenier idea! I may to do this on my next trip.

We did this last year. Very, very convenient!!! I got this tip on the boards before our trip last May!! My DH said my time on these boards really paid off (despite the fact that he was running low on clean underwear :rotfl2: )!! There were a lot of other tips that helped us last year besides the M&M tubes. :disrocks:
