Pressed pennies - year still legible?

We're leaving in one week and getting last minute items together. DW was wondering if you can still make out the year on the penny after its pressed. If so, she wants to take 2001 pennies to mark the year of the trip.

We've heard the advice of the pre-19?? pennies pressing better because of the ore content. But she'd rather do the year of the trip if you can still make it out after the pressing.

Everything on the coin is obliterated (on both sides) once it goes into the press. Occasionally, you can see part of the image on the flip side of the coin after it's pressed. I've had some where you could still make out Lincoln's head, but not much else. If she wants to do coins from 2001, some of the quarter presses in the hotels are printing images on them with 2001 on the bottom.

I have not done any penny pressings at WDW, but everywhere else I have, I don't remember the year being legible after the pressings.

We just returned sunday, with about 50 pressed pennies. Pre 1986 is what I mostly used. They came out beautifully. I did use a few 2001 to see how they came out, and there was a lot of silver streaking in them.. not nearly as pretty as the older coins. I had a few from the 1950's and those are richest in color. Also, if you pennies are dirty, you can take an eraser and "erase" all of the dirt off of them before you go. It made for a brighter pressed penny, the dirty ones looked dull.

Our pressed pennies have the figured pressed on one side and completely smooth on the other side.

I wanted to drill a hole in the penny and see what that looks like, if they line up rigth make a necklace out of it, it has to line up just perfect though.
