I just heard this morning that President Bush is holding a prime-time news conference (7 PM Central) to discuss Social Security and energy policies. While I realize these are important topics I also realize that this press conference will be going up against Survivor and depending on how long it lasts could also run over into The Apprentice! :sad2:

Does anyone know if CBS and NBC are going to pre-empt regular programming for the news conference and/or if they are just going to show Survivor/Apprentice after the news conference. I need to know how to program my DVR and I don't want to miss any of them. I need my reality TV fix! :teeth:

I have seen nothing about preempting, but my feeling is they will move them to after and just delay the start. I love Survivor and I watch Apprentice, but what the President has to say is a lot more important. They will be shown, but you might have some overlap. Check the CBS and NBC websites.

well i wanna watch survivor not listen to the president talk about all the tax cuts he just gave the big corporations

i read about him wanting more resources and dont need to hear it all over again

hey wonder if they are planting people to ask questions again !! hahah :rotfl:

Thanks for the warning. I don't need to be home as early as I thought now.

I hate it when politicians do this. I mean, what if it ran over into the Simpsons?

Actually, it's quite a sad indicator of voter apathy when politicians take second place to TV shows. Their fault, their loss.

I would much rather watch my TV shows than listen to W blather

We have CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, and at least two CSPAN channels--that's plenty for presidential press conferences--unless I'm being attacked or something don't preempt my TV to spin the gifts you're going to give your rich friends....

I like to be informed, but, honestly....haven't we all heard enough about it to have formed opinions??

Bush on TV for an hour flapping his gums about it isn't going to change anyone's mind. He has nothing new to say that we all haven't heard before. Those people who aren't already informed of the issues aren't going to watch anyway.

Back in the days before the Internet and cable news, a President HAD to get on network TV to get his point across. Now....the media is everywhere and these things are reported on and discussed on a daily basis.

Thank God I have SoapNet....I'll be watching All My Children.

Resources for what? You don't use any resources?

Surveys show that the news media is 90% Democrat, so they are basically all Democrat plants. :rotfl2:

As long as he doesn't mess with Blue Collar TV and Bill Engvall's Mobile Home Makeover we're cool!

Well for me personally it has nothing to do with voter apathy. I like to consider myself fairly well educated as to what the President's solutions to Social Security are and I think I know enough about his proposed energy policies. I have read many articles and I have watched way too many news programs over the last few months. What I don't know is who will be kicked off Survivor tonight? :earboy2:

I will not be able to watch TV right at 7 PM this evening because I will be dealing with two little kids. I just want to know when I need to set my DVR to record so I can make sure I don't miss anything really important. ;)

I do use evergy resources we all do but we dont need a prime time press conference about it
with all news, interent and cable news station it gets plenty of play there as someone else already said
tax cut info is provided in the links

I really wish Presidential News Conferences would be aired on news channels. That goes for any President, not just the current one.

also judical im sorry you feel the meida is so liberal but that has nothing to do with my copmment
it was already proven that jeff gannon was given a press pass and was planted to ask questions

On Jeff Gannon

"I'm going to suggest what that is. Because not only did he have a press pass, but apparently he got scoops that other reporters didn't get. He got the one before anybody else had it on your boy Dan Rather when he got in trouble with the Swift Boat reporting. He got the story on the attack of Baghdad, when we started the war in March of 2003, four hours before anybody else got it. Now, I don't want to start rumors here, but isn't it sort of obvious that he had a boyfriend in the White House? Somebody at the highest level was spilling the beans while he was 'spilling the beans.'"

Agree! Keep it to the news channels, and leave my television programming alone! With the present way news is done anyway, we will probably all have a copy of the speach before it is presented! ;)

Heck, I'm a die-hard republican, and I wish W would do it some other time, or only on the news channels. Seriously, if I want news, I know how to use my remote to go to whatever channel (Fox, in my case, but others might choose CNN or MSNBC). The days of needing the networks to reach "everyone" are over. Gimmee my Survivor back! And the sad part is, you can bet the nets would rather being runnign regular programming--no commercials during the press conference = no advertising $. And if you flip to Animal Planet or pop in a movie, they've lost you for the night. It's a lose-lose! I say, "Impeach the bum!" (No, not really, I am still a fan, I just have so little to look forward to in my drab, wretched life!)

It's not like Bush has a news conference every day . . . These things are so rare that each one is a big event.

I watch all televised presidential speeches, no matter who is in office. I think it falls under the category of giving respect to the office. I also think it is a great opportunity to discuss politics with our children. You can listen to what he has to say and explain to the kids why you agree or disagree with what he is saying in a calm and mature matter, without being disrespectful. That way they will have a better understanding of how our political system works and why it is so important to be involved and vote. I think that, as a nation, it is important to educate our kids on how to be proactive in the political process, that is the only way we will move forward....IMHO.....

You can be very politically active and not watch Presidential press conferences. You can also educate your children about the political process without watching Presidential press conferences.

We have cable news channels, online media, and print media. Plenty of opportunities to watch or read the transcripts of the speech without alienating those of us who would prefer to watch Survivor over hearing the President repeatedly mispronounce "nuclear"

I know you can...I said it was an "opportunity"....and it is.

I also said in a respectful manner.....I wish we could rise above the pie throwing population.
