It's easier than you may think to fall off of a mountain bike. It depends on what type of trail you are on.
We went out yesterday morning, and it started raining and the trail had already been muddy from previous storms. None of us fell, but we had a few close calls.
I had one bad fall, I hit a pole and dented my helmet. It sounds stupid, but if you hit a big rock, going fast you can lose your balance.
Yes, it's good to always wear helmets.
