Preparing to Hunker

Seems like all this hunkering has been needless. This storm has been a bust. There's a light breeze and some drizzle.

We just hunkered our last meal at the Cheesecake Factory, before the heavy rain starts Looks like the worst of it will hit here while we are asleep tonight.

Guess I need practice hunkering down. I had a 1/4 cup of trail mix all day (well until 5:00 pm) and a marylou's coffee (cinnamon french toast flavor). Went to Walmart, BJs and Stop & Shop all on an empty stomach and the only thing that I got not on the list was a twix. Still sitting on kitchen table.

Now if I could hunker down with no ramifications.....

Salt n' Vinegar Chips
Cheez Its

Gosh...all this hunkerin' down food kind of makes me jealous. In my neck of the woods (the ring of fire) there are several volcanoes that could blow between now and the next billion years -- would that qualify me as an official hunker downer?

I just sent DH to Ruby Tuesday's for take out dinner, and it's pouring out. Later tonight I'll be hunkering down with some Double Stuff Oreos and a big glass of milk.

Living in the Ohio Valley, we only get the remains of the Gulf coast storms, if their rain bands hold together long enough to make it to us. Gustov's Remains hit us the last two days, with on again off again rains. Today was very nice, low humidity and Sunny. So, I've been hunkering down in my Office - aka Storm/Bomb Shelter (I got left in the building during a Bomb Treat) in the dungeon, I mean basement at work. Little Debbie Nutty Bars were my available snack food for my hunkering.

Thanks Jen...I decided to step out of the shadows once I got over my nervousness about meeting people at the DWFB meet. My features were thrown off a bit after I had to crop the photo to a size that would work -- but yep, that's me standing in my kitchen!

It's been pouring here in Long Island for the past several hours. We have LOTS of hunkering down food (and I made a hunkering down baked ziti for dinner!) but of course DBF and I are still trying to convince ourselves to brave the rain and get some hunkering down Starbucks..

Nothing like roughing it during a "storm". We'll see if it even really rains before I go to bed. All I care is that the basement doesn't flood.

Hanna was here yesterday in NC. I went to the store on my way home from work for my hunker down snacks. It was pouring rain, but I didn't want to be home and craving some junk food! By the time I left the store it wasn't raining at all I tried to be good since we're doing free dining in 2 weeks and I at least need to fit into my shorts BEFORE we get there, since I can't guarantee I'll still fit into them AFTER free dining! Anyway, I got chex mix, sour patch kids and chocolate donuts incase power was out this morning and we couldn't cook breakfast (oh and a jug of water, so at least it looked like I was preparing for real ) I really wanted icecream but remembered my DIS friends warning of the dangers of melted hunker snacks and I passed on the frozen aisle. When DH got home from work a few hours later, he had a pound of peanut M&M's! We ate the M&M's, I'd already had the sour patch kids, and we went to bed around midnight. We got a bunch of rain overnight, but no power outages and no damage Of course we had the donuts for breakfast anyway

I have a story to share about something other than hunkering that I LOVED about this storm. Last year this time, our nextdoor neighbor decided to do a MAJOR landscaping project that involved renting a bobcat to build a retaining wall in his yard. In the process he destroyed our side yard (the houses are only 10' apart at most) and totally messed up the drainage in our back yard by building up his yard. This DIY project had his yard torn up for 8 months, and being so close to our yard was seriously annoying. Anyway, with all the rain last night, his wall in his backyard collapsed! I know I should feel bad for him, but with all the crap we put up with for his project, I really don't! It was quite obvious he had no idea what he was doing and he should have hired a professional!! Of course now we're waiting to see what kind of mess gets created when he tries to fix his wall, but until then we'll quietly enjoy laughing at his stupidity Moral of the story - if you're doing work on your property that requires you to rent a piece of equipment you don't know how to operate that's bigger than your car, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL or it may wash away!

I'm outside Annapolis. They say we got 6-7" of rain today but I'm not sure about that. There are lots of leaves in the road but no major branches. It seemed like just a rainy day with a little wind. Our power didn't even go out (although I pretended it did and got takeout for dinner). Now that's the way to have a hurricane!

We "rode out" the storm at Atlantic Beach, NC. We went light on the hunkerin' snacks: a bag of Doritos and a bag of Gala apples. I did get a pic of my children with Jim Cantore.

Awww Mindy! How does he like school so far? My sis just started her freshman year in college too. I have been trying not to call her constantly but its so hard not to! What school does he go to?

Very cool. DH and I just got back from AB last weekend (we have a timeshare there) and when we saw Jim on the weather channel it was like ahh ohhh.. Jim's there, this isn't good. Sounds like all went well there though.

well the "tropical storm" here in salisbury was just a day of light rain with occasional gusts of wind! a few dead branches on the grown and pine needles but other than that just another normal day

Very odd to see that people north of us had so much damage
