Hi DisFriends! We are headed to Disney this weekend to be spectators for the Cheer and Dance Worlds! My family is staying off site at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek. As much as my daughter wanted to stay at All Star Sports so she could run into and interact with her favorite "Cheerlebrities" I had postponed a previous WBC stay that I have to use up before I run out of dates to stay before the end of the summer.

I know it is talked about on the board quite a bit and some have a negative opinion of the cheerleaders going to Disney. This is cheerleaders favorite time of year and many fly to Orlando from around the world to compete and watch as spectators. I love watching the International teams too!

So if you are in Orlando for these dates, please be patient with these cheerleaders as they are here fulfilling their dream as athletes and are also enjoying Disney as a guests just like you, some for the first time. It is quite expensive and these teams often have to fund raise the entire year to pay for their trip. So if you run into them, instead of automatically thinking they are annoying cheerleaders, try talking to them, ask them what team they are on, how they are doing in the competition, etc. These athletes are the best of the best from around the world. This is not like other cheerleading events where teams just sign up and come, they have to be invited through winning other competitions.

Cheer and Dance Worlds April 23-25
This competition minimum age to compete is 12, not top age, some still compete in their 30's!

Cheer Summit April 29 - May 1
This is for lower level team that are non Cheer Worlds divisions so they are under 18.

If you want to see what these athletes are all about, go to YouTube and search for "Cheer World Highlights" or "Cheer Summit Highlights" and prepare to be impressed. :) You can also watch the ESPN televised version on YouTube. Both events are aired on ESPN.

Good luck to you!

Thank you. We are going as spectators supporting our teams. :) This is an event that who are not competing attend. The HP Field house sells out and those not lucky enough to get inside get to watch outside on the Jumbotron.

Is there some sort of rampant problem with cheerleader discrimination of which I am not aware?

We often go this time of year. You don't even see the cheerleaders in the parks very much. And when you do, it is clear that they are guests (with big hair bows and really tiny shorts). I don't think they are running into a lot of negative energy.

Yes, on DisBoards over the last several years there have been many negative comments about the cheerleaders attendance to competitions at WDW.

It's not the cheerleaders people complain about. It's the South American tour groups.

I wish your DD the best of luck and a fun trip.

I went lest your during this week and doing agin this year not for the cheerleading but because it is my Bday and what better place to spend your birthday then a week at disney I am staying at all start sports ( both last year and this year) now I do not do well in crowds at all I left MK after wishes and the line for the busses was very long the people behind me were some cheer leaders the little girl notice I was not doing to good and asked what was wrong I told her I have problems with crowds she said oh then made sure ( in a very nice way) that she or here friends did not get to close to me ( she gave me problem 5 feet) she was great

so yes they can be really great people

They complain about them as well. There are complaints against large groups in general.

Regardless, we are going to enjoy our weekend. :) My daughter loves to go and meet and take pictures many cheerleaders as she can.

One time I was at WDW during Pop Warner and never ever again would I go during Pop Warner. Most of the young football players were courteous and great to be around. The cheerleaders with endless cheers, loud yelling, one person holding line for 12 friends to break ahead etc in the lines was a totally different story ..... I love WDW but that was one of the most horrible trips ever.

Only funny thing happened was at Splash Mtn. Was in line & had where 1 girl ahead was holding 'spots' for her friends to catch up. Could hear behind me some of the cheerleaders (in the cheer t-shirts) breaking past everyone - lots of mumbling behind me 'they shouldn't be doing that' etc. There were 2 college adult males behind me & my friend & when the girls got to the guys the guys said No! You have been breaking line all the way through. Your one friend can wait for all of you. So the girls ended up behind us. Before we got in the log, the girls wanted to be in back so they wouldn't get wet. Ok! Friend & I told our new guy friends GREAT!!! We loaded with heaviest people at the front then next heaviest group. At the big drop.... all sit as close to the edge of your seat; lean as far forward as you can to put weight to front of log & get as low as possible. the back riders looked like they had been on Kali River Rapids. No it wasn't nice!

I know that the large groups of teenagers are as good as the adults in charge. And every group of cheerleaders are different. Just relating my experience.

I don't think there's a lot of negativity as far as cheerleaders in the parks. But I wouldn't want to be staying at ASSP at that time, especially if you Refer to it as- THE place to run into all the cheerlebrities!!:rotfl:For most people, they go back to the resorts to relax, and thousands of teen girls doesn't seem appealing to most. But in The parks, I don't think anyone is rolling their eyes and running away. I'm sure you will have fun and not notice any negativity.:cheer2::cheer2:

Yes, Pop Warner Cheerleaders is one of the cheer groups that there are frequent comments about on DisBoards. We do not have any experience with Pop Warner cheer, just All Star Cheer.

Is there some sort of rampant problem with cheerleader discrimination of which I am not aware?

Yes. They are not much of a problem at parks, especially since they travel around in small groups, as small as many families and usually are very well behaved. The issue is the takeover at the hotels they stay at and practicing in proximity to rooms, sometimes late at night.

It's not the cheerleaders people complain about. It's the South American tour groups.

It is both at the hotels.

The BTG are a huge problem at hotels and parks. We now refuse to stay at hotels affected during BTG season as it's miserable. In parks BTGs travel is in large packs of 50 or so. Hard to ignore that many behaving poorly.

Just like the other large groups there have been pictures taken of them (walking in a group, in line, on the bus, stunting near castle, etc) and posted on DisBoards. One of the pictures I saw here included one of my daughter's friends.

Some folks go to All Star Sports and do not even go to the competition. They just go to All Star Sports to watch them practice. :) A few of my daughter's friends did this and the mom that took them didn't even book a room at the resort. Orlando is an easy day trip from Tampa. She just somehow showed up and spent the day there with her girls at their pool. #Truth. I wouldn't do that, I would book a room. We won't be at All Star Sports, we are at WBC.

This sounds to me like a group of clueless teenage girls encountered four petty adults, and nobody came out of it looking good. :sad2:
