Prep for Kali River Rapids or Skip It?

We LOVE Kali Rapids and wouldn't skip it. That being said, you may get soaked. It depends on where you are when you go down the 25 foot hill, and then there are water jets towards the end that you can't avoid. We have learned and will be bringing flip flops this year, bought them just for the rapids ride. We will use the free lockers to put our regular shoes in and use the flip flops. Even if you put your feet up on the bars, you still aren't safe. Have a great time!

We rode KRR in August. We made sure it was the last ride of the day so that we could get SOAKED. One thing we didn't think of though...the freezing air conditioning on the bus! Longest bus ride ever.

Still worth it though!

I Love Kali River Rapids.. always end up wet, often soaked. lol. (Even the times I've tried to be prepared with a poncho & waterproof shoes.

It's that last bit under the bridge, that little green button for those standing on the bridge to push is the biggest culprit! They push it and those under the bridge receive a downpour from above that is hard to avoid!

Riding Kali last is always a good option to minimize day long discomfort :)

My upcoming trip is a solo trip, and I'm trying to finish my list of attractions/rides I haven't done yet. Other than actually getting my rear into a seat without freaking out on RnRC, :scared: the biggest ride I have any concern about is Kali River Rapids. Since I know the chances of getting totally soaked are better than average due to my being bigger than average, ;) I'm debating how much preparation is too much to avoid being uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Poncho is a given, I figure I can put my string back on my front to guard electronics. :scratchin Shoes are the big block, though. I don't know what I can do to get out of squishy soaking my neat, new, comfy, fancy walking shoes other than bringing something else to wear--which is a lot to add to my daily loadout. Any ideas? Or should I just skip it and save it for an easier trip to figure?

S K I P! Other than the anticipation of finding out if you're going to get totally drenched, or just moderately wet, the attraction really isn't that much fun. It's basically a slow raft ride that turns a little bit, rocks a little bit and bumps into the sides a little bit. It's really kind of boring.

I wore a poncho and switched my shoes for flip-flops. I left my shoes and electronics in one of the lockers. My shorts got splashed and a little water got in around the collar of the poncho but I wasn't uncomfortably wet afterwards, even with the big hill and the water jets towards the end.

The ride wasn't actually that great (not bad, but nothing horribly special) and I probably won't bother doing it again, but I don't really like water rides to begin with.

You're not allowed to ride barefoot.

Agreed. You used to be able to years ago but the rules changed as many people would get off the attraction in bare feet and walk a ways to put on their shoes. Some sort of footwear is required while in Disney parks so that was technically against the rules.

After not getting wet at all the first time riding it on our 2012 trip, we decided to do it again and guess what...soaked to the bone. Not change of clothes, spend 30 mins in the restroom blow drying our clothes, still damp and made for a very uncomfortable rest of our day.

Not making the same mistake this trip, bringing a quick change of clothes, small sundress or light shorts and top. We wear Crocs to Disney cause of not liking wet shoes, great for flash rain storms too.

I have always put my backpack in the centre section, it has gotten mildly wet before, if there is too much stuff in it, the lid doesn't seal down. I put my cellphone and camera in a ziplock bag in my backpack that way if it does get wet, my electronics don't.

As for the lockers, how do they work? Is it a key you take with you or do you use your Key to the World or Magicbands to lock them up.

I've never noticed lockers near KRR. Where are they and how do they work? Do you receive a key to take with you?

They use a user-generated PIN code, if I remember correctly.

They're sort of off to your left as you approach the ride entrance, under a structure. I wish I could describe it a little better.

Thanks! I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them next time we're there.
