Has anyone walked from the Premium Outlet Mall - 8200 Vineland Ave to the Publix - 8145 Vineland Ave? Was it a long walk, it sounds close but didn't look that close on Mapquest. We want to shop at the stores at the outlet mall and then walk to the grocery store to get some snacks.

Thanks

It's behind the mall. You would go to the far end of the mall and then cross the street to the Publix. I've always driven but I think it's walkable. Watch the traffic.

Being a former long-time Florida resident (Miami-Ft. Lauderdale), I will give you my opinion. However easy it looks on a map, when you get outside in the relentless, super-bright sunlight and high humidity-high temperature heat, you will realize that walking over to Publix on that heat-absorbing asphalt and concrete is a bad idea before you are even halfway there. Then if you change your mind and decide to go back to where you started, you will still have to trek all that way back. (I have been in this situation before.)

In Florida, the hot, bright weather can be your worst enemy, just like snow and ice can be your worst enemy up north. :sad1:

If you have a car, drive over because indeed it is VERY hot and humid out there. It's a 5-8 minute walk but you'll be drenched.

But if you don't have a car, it's not that far!

It's definitely a walkable distance,I understand with 95 degree temperatures you want to limit how much you walk in the hot sun but it's no more than a 5-10 minute walk, nobody should pass out from it.

I also agree that it's easy to walk over there, however I also agree that if you have a car it will be a lot better to drive there. I mean this way you don't need to walk back over to the Premium Outlets with whatever bags you might have.

If you all walk over to Publix, it would be best to get a cab right from the store, maybe you can make arrangements prior. If not, then I would suggest 2 stay at the mall with the purchases and the other two go to publix. The 2 at the mall could be called when you're ready and they can grab a cab (there are always many ready to go at the entrance). They can tell the cab driver to go to publix to pick up the other 2 and then back to your resort.

The heat will not be a problem - we are going to be in Florida in December, and we are planning on going in the evening (mall closes at 9, Publix 10). So with that put aside what do you think. Walk to Publix from the mall then after done a Publix catch a taxi from there?
I just don't know if i want to take the time on my first day to wait for Alamo to pick me up, get the car and then go out in the evening.
Honest opinions? I am still on the fence...

Personally, we always rent a car. Why not just rent a car at the airport, then do your errands and drop the car off at the Swan and Dolphin the next morning and go to the EPCOT or the Studios from there. You can do this easily with Alamo or National.

Regular and holiday hours for the Premium Outlets has the mall closing at 11pm Monday through Saturday and at 9pm on Sundays.

We were just there last week and it is walkable but I would park at the far end of the outlet just to make things easier.

I take it that you're going to be taking a taxi to the Premium Outlets from wherever you'll be before your shopping trip.

While it can sometimes be warm in Orlando in December I don't think that you'll have any problem with the weather/heat walking across the street and then across the parking lot to the Publix store. But you should be aware that Publix is both a little up the street and at the back of a fairly large parking lot. I'd estimate that the distance is between a quarter mile and a half mile from the outlet mall to the doors at Publix. I don't specifically recall seeing taxis waiting for fares right outside of the store so you'll probably have to call a cab when you're finishing up at Publix.

You'll want to leave the Outlet from the rear left - near the Plaza de las Palmas section over by the Loft outlet and the Calvin Klein men's store.

Despite all of that, if it were me I'd get a rental car and spend the extra time on that rather than spending time walking across and then waiting for a taxi later in the day when I'm certain that I'd be tired.

Thanks for your help - I think we are going to rent a car. It just seems to be the easier solution.
