premade, frozen meatballs?

When I was younger I never had Worcester sauce to put in it like the recipe said. I used steak sauce because it was a brown sauce. It gave the meatloaf a really good flavor and I still do it today

OK, TinkPirateMom, I'm going to try those too! I might just go get some tomorrow and try them. The sauce, DonPepino, do you get that at Sams too?

I like the taste of the Armour meatballs (although I did get one bag that had a terrible taste to it, returned that and have been a little leery since), but they are very "loose" and don't hold together well. Wal-Mart's Italian meatballs (they have regular and Italian) are tasty and hold together well, but they're small, great for cocktail/appetizer things, but too small for sandwiches. I used to LOVE Market Days' meatballs, but they changed their recipe maybe 8 years ago? and I don't like the new ones anywhere near as much.

What steak sauce do you use? When I've used A-1, I can taste it too much. I prefer Worchestershire, it seems to blend better and I only get Lea and Perrins.

Yes, they have the huge cans at Sam's Club for $3.47 or something like that. I have found smaller cans at Acme.

When I buy frozen meatballs I get the one's from Sam's club in the big bag. My son loves them and I can heat up two in the microwave with a little sauce and give him that for lunch or dinner if he doesn't like what I'm malking! :) I make homemade meatballs sometimes, too, but the frozen ones are handy and taste good.

You can make them with a lb of chopped meat too. Just add an egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, pepper and grated cheese- we use Romano i. Instead of bread crumbs I soak a couple of slices of white bread in water and add that to the mixture. I leave the bread out a while so it gets a little hard beforehand. Mix and roll the meatballs. I fry them in a little olive oil. Yummy with or without sauce!

Very similar to my recipe, I only use a lb of beef too. Makes enough meatballs to feed 6 when served with pasta. Instead of the minced garlic I sautee 1/2 a small chopped onion in a little olive oil. I add together the 1 lb ground beef the sauteed onion, one egg, 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (or 2 tsp dry if I don't have fresh), 2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp ground pepper, 3/4 cup breadcrumbs and 1/2 cup grated romano or parmesean cheese. I also add a little milk to get it to the right "wetness" I make my meatballs kind of small size, about the size of a lime, I just roll them in my hand to shape, and cook them on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet in the oven for about 20-25 minutes. I use jar sauce, we like Francesco Rinaldi (traditional). I add the meatballs to the sauce in a pan when I warm the sauce, both the meatballs and the sauce taste better if they simmer in the sauce for at least 20 minutes. Oh and I am Italian but I always seem to burn my sauce so I gave up on that!

I guess we are not pickey meatballers. I always buy the Walmart brand both Italian and plain and we like them just fine. I don't even want to try making my own because I'm afraid we won't like the frozen ones any more. ;)

I use equal parts of beef/veal/pork mix in eggs bread crumbs garlic cheese. Through it in my kitchenaid and use an ice cream scoop and bake at 350 for 30 minutes and into sauce. Most grocery stores will sell like a meatloaf mix. I will use that as well. I am Italian and that is how my mom always made meatballs.

I do not like frozen meatballs and very rarely eat them when offered.

You can get the smaller cans of Dom Pepino (have never seen them at our local Sam's but then again, I wasn't looking) at Giant Eagle.
I really like Dom Pepino sauces (spagetti and pizza).

Giant Eagle also carries Victoria and Mario Batalli jar sauces which are both VERY good, but are also like $7.99 a jar!

Here's the loose recipe I use:

3lbs ground beef (I buy 90% lean)
1T garlic, minced (I use jarred)
1/4c romano cheese (I use a parm/Romano blend in the can)
1c Italian bread crumbs
Pepper (I eyeball it, maybe 1/4t)
2 eggs, might need one more if they're very small)

I double this when I buy the BJs family pack. Sometimes it's closer to 5lbs, sometimes closer to 7...just adjust accordingly. It's a very forgiving recipe.

Roll into balls, olive oil on the sheet pan then drizzles over top.

Bake at 375 for 20-25 mins.

Oh my, I am NOT a gourmet chef nor do I enjoy cooking, but meatballs is one of the easiest things for me to make and DH loves them!

1# ground beef
1 egg
1/2 c breadcrumbs

... then I just throw in some salt, garlic powder & italian seasonings. I eyeball it all. A little less salt, a little more garlic powder because I over do garlic powder all the time, lol.

I know a lot of people are iffy about raw meat & crockpots, but I line my crockpot with the meatballs in the morning, pour a jar of spaghetti sauce on top & dinner is DONE.

Yes I use A1.

1lb hamburger
1 egg
1 c. bread crumbs
1 T. steak sauce
1 T. ketchup
1 t. mustard
salt
pepper
1/2 c. milk (maybe a little less)
onion, minced

I don't know if they do it every year, but last year Victoria sauce (all varieties) was on sale around February for about half price at Wegman's, ShopRite, and Sam's Club. It stayed on sale for several weeks. I bought about 30 jars and I'm just running out of it now. The vodka sauce is really good too. The normal price I see for it around here in NJ is around $6 a jar.

we just buy the bag of frozen meatballs at Costco. Not sure what brand it is but it's the only one they sell. They are very good on their own or in sauce.

I just bought a bag of Meijer brand ones and they are nasty.

I buy 2 bags of turkey meatballs at Aldis. Love them! They are on our weekly menu since my kids love them and they are easy for me to make. I normally throw 2 bags in the crockpot in the am if I have time with BBQ sauce or Spagetti Sauce. If not they cook up quickly on the stove in the sauce. We eat them on hotdog buns YUMMY!

Thanks! I am going to try this. But without the pepper. So your cheese is like the powdered kind??

You guys have inspired me! I just made some meatballs for my husband. He has been hinting at wanting some, so I decided to try it. It was pretty easy, now we will just have to see how they taste.

I did a beef and pork mixture, added seasoning, bread crumbs, parm cheese and eggs.

I have tried every brand of Frozen meatballs and could never find any that my family would enjoy. ( Our dogs appreciated them)

So , I baked homemade meatballs which take time (shopping for ingredients etc). One day I was really rushed and I picked up a bag of Italian style meatballs from Sam's club and my family gobbled them up. I always have them in the freezer- let me grab them now. They are Casa Di Bertacchi Authentic Italian Style Beef Meatballs Fully Cooked 5/8 ounce aproximately 153 meatballs.
My family prefers the smaller ones and they make great appetizers.
I doctor up jarred sauce .
