Thank you guys! They lost about 1/4 of their roof (a tree from their neighbor's yard fell on it and then the wind gusts got "under" the open part and tore it off...BUT they are all safe and the damage repairable. His wife said the room that was "open" to the elements looks like a bomb went off in it. She needed 13 stitches from where she ripped her arm while trying to hang a tarp over the opening but her 8 month old son didn't have a scratch on his head...so she was not upset at all! Our friend still hasn't made it home to see for himself as he worked for as long as he could stay on his feet and then some and finally had a mandatory "sleep and food break". He was able to call home and say he was safe but going to sleep instead of coming home and he likely won't be home for at least 48 more hours (he was technically off this morning), maybe much longer if he is one of the many they are going to send to the worst hit parts of the state.


Seems sort of funny to be thankful that "just" a roof was torn off...but I am so happy to hear that is the worst of it (for them at least, there are still so many others that need good thoughts and prayers). She said the worst part to live with right now is actually the loss of electricity and phone line. She thinks it might be over a week before it's restored...I hope that estimation was a long one!

Anyway, if you can continue to spare some prayers for all of those in TX and LA right now and also in specific for the continued safety of our friend as he continues to help those in need after Ike.

Bummer about the coooking class...but I'm sure everything will work out well-and just ANOTHER great excuse to go back!

Also-where is the info posted for the FW campfire/movie? I'd like to watch it for my November trip...

If you go to the Camping at Disney World forum from the main page the movie schedule is a sticky at the top of it. The current month's schedule is released the last day of the previous month or the first day or two of that month.

And I am on a mission to find that duct tape smilie...it is helping distract me. HA HA HA.

That's a bummer about the cooking class. At least you have something to look forward to next year.

Aww thanks! I love reading trip reports myself. I get so into them I stay awake way too late at night! I just get so caught up in the magic and fun that they are describing.

I figure the cooking class just gives me more ammo in begging for another trip!

Oh, that's too bad about the cooking class! But, like you said, there is always next time!

I can just imagine what your piles look like right now 6 people, one of which is an infant, for 2 weeks!!! That's gotta take up a lot of room! I bet it almost feels like you're moving!

IT does almost feel like we are moving. Dh just informed me that I have a total of five large suitcases, one smallish medium suitcase, a hanging garment bag, (the stroller) and a carry on bag in which to fit all of our stuff. I have not a clue how my mounds of stuff will fit! He is more strict than the airlines!

The entire "dream day" sounds wonderful and don't you dare spoil anything!! I just went on a little search for a smilie with duct tape over its mouth and couldn't find one! I just read DM your update, we're both looking forward to your trip! (And I didn't fail to mention that you demanded her to get healthy! ) Packing for six sounds exhausting!!

Cue the Single Digit dance!

I promise to do my very best (and dh has me on "notice" that I better not spill the beans). I really think slinking off to the spa to hide my big mouth out of sight of my family is the smartest move for me that morning!

Yea!!! It seems like its taken forever to get here. Good luck packing. OMG packing for six for two weeks. I have faith that you are up to that task. I get overwhelmed packing for my five for one week.

I didn't say I was not overwhelmed! I am sitting here posting vs. actually doing the packing. I have however moved the entire operation out an out of the way part of the house to the middle of our dining room. I now HAVE NO CHOICE. I must pack tonight. It's either that or risk little hands moving items, setting things that don't belong there in my piles or stuff getting dirty...so, I AM packing tonight. I have no choice (I did that to myself on purpose). One would think I could wise up about not leaving packing until the last second (which this literally almost is). We have soccer and/or other kid activities every other day between now and when we leave. Why didn't I pack last weekend?!

BARB...I am a big mouth. I am under strict orders from all sides to keep my mouth shut though...I just have to do it. I wonder if anyone has ever died from not being able to speak of a surprise?!

I'm so glad to hear that the roof being ripped off was the worst of it. Thank goodness nobody was hurt! The news footage on parts of Texas underwater is very frightening.

They usually come and stay in our house (free vacation home for them, free house watching/pet sitting for us...works out great!). I am sad that I will only have a day and a half with my nephew before we have to leave BUT not THAT sad. I am heading off to WDW!! And we will have two days with them after our return as well!

Don't have long to type right now, I am in the middle of packing, I just wanted to stop in and shout about my ticker! It looks lovely with only 2 days remaining on it!!

OMGosh Jay it is almost here. Keep on packing girl you have alot to pack. whew that sounds like a job in itself. Those pics of you as a child are so cute. I have one of me in the CR when it first opened and this hideous shag carpet. I have a shot with Mickey too. I found my dads bill (handwritten) for one night at the Cotemp in 1974 (I think) it was $82. I also found this old very cool pin. We were cleaning out my parents basement and found a bunch of old stuff. Anyhoo enough about my trip down memory lane. I can not wait to hear all about the fantastic trip you are about to take. We will be on the edge of the seat reading I am sure. Have fun!!!

Have a wonderful time. I really can't wait to hear about your trip. We had some wind from Ike and have lost power. According to the authorities it could be up until a week before we get power. Fortunatly my mom has power, and we are staying here for the week. So, I am dreaming of our trip in November. Your trip reports make me feel like we are there too. This will give me something to look forward to. Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks for all of the well wishes!! We leave tomorrow night. Yes, that means I somehow have to make myself patient enough to go about my day tomorrow as normally as possible. That should be interesting!! I am so excited...it's our Little Prince's first trip. I have a great big surprise planned for all of the boys and our dear friends...which also happens to be my own dream day. I get to spend 9 days at WDW and then go on a cruise! What more could a girl ask for?!


My nephew and his fiance are safely here to vacation themselves and house sit for us. All of the bags are packed and stowed away in the van. Just about every single item on my to do list is checked off. Now there is nothing left to do but wait...and wait...and wait...

Well, that and read all of your sweet well wishes. It's so good to have people who understand how excited you are. And Rachel...thanks for the news about NOTHING brewing...that's just the kind of weather I was hoping for!!

This time tomorrow I will be on my way to WDW! Most likely asleep in the van...but on my way!! Even dh is excited to go on this trip! How unlike him and how great for us!!
