Pregnant woman in a BIKINI at Sesame Place today..

Having a child is a miracle. Seeing a pregnant woman is beautiful. I am currently 8 months pregnant and I wear a bikini in my backyard. I chose not to wear one in public because I am a bit shy. I would much rather look at a big pregnant belly full of life then some fat hairy guy in a speedo or some huge woman with everything hanging out. That's not to say that I feel that to each their own, but truthfully I prefer the glow of a pregnant woman than the bloated look of someone who had a great lunch! :earsgirl:

I was at Sesame Place two weeks ago and I have to say that an uncovered pregnant belly would have been a welcome sight compared to some of the things I saw instead. I don't get why people are so scandalized by the sight of a pregnant woman's belly?? Sounds like vestiges of the same mentality that meant women who were pregnant had to be "confined." :confused3

Hey, I was there two weeks ago too!! What days were you there? And I agree with you on the some of the scary sights there. Eeek. I saw someone there who was pregnant and was wearing a bikkini. The only thing I thought was hmmm, I wonder how far along she is.

i must be old fashioned...........when i was pregnant i just bought a maternity b.suit. no big deal. i guess to each there own, but no way ---even if i was MRS> AMERICA would i . hahaha..........

Both DH and I think it would look great. I love to see pg women showing off their bods, as long as they would wear something similar when they are not pg. JMO

:dog2:I have to say, this whole thread bothers me a bit. IMO, I think people of all shapes and sizes, fat, skinny, pregnant or not, cellulite or none, should be able to wear whatever bathing suit they feel comforatable in at the beach. We were at a waterpark a few weeks ago and what my family notices is how much fun people are having with their children and with e/o. Not what they are wearing. It's thinking like some posters have mentioned that leave our children with eating disorders. I have suffered with Anorexia most of my life, and can say...that having people around me who said.." She shouldn't be wearing that..or discussed it later on..as though there weren't more important things going on in the world ..fed into my disorder. Not trying to be rude..just IMO, i think the world would be alot kinder if everyone would only share their kindness with others and keep the judgemental stuff to themselves

Hey, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just surprised to see it, and wondered if others would do it, since I wouldn't. I have to admit I am surprised the thread has drawn so much reaction. As I mentioned before, she looked great, and more power to her, if she felt comfortable. And it was DH who said ewwwww. So blame him! :)

I'd like to add that I'm aware that when you go to a water park you have no choice but to wear a bathing suit. I am self conscious and try to wear one that is flattering. Sometimes as you walk through the park it's hard NOT to notice when someone wears something that is not flattering, whatever their shape.

TRUE! Don't like it, don't look. There is way too much focus on body image! We really have to keep in mind what we say around our children and teens. They really take it to heart. I remember at age 15 (and about 100 lbs.) drinking Slim Fast because my brothers called me fat. No good!!!

well said ThreeMusketeers!
There is so much beauty in the world if only we have eyes to see it all!

Three muskateers you are completely right. I apologize if my original reply insinuated that I really care what others wear. I was trying to make a point but I realize that it might have come across as rude. Much apologies. I definelty see where you are coming from as I had/have an issue with food to this day because of some awful comments that I had heard as a child. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. :earsgirl:

I can say this from 2 perspectives- I was anorexic in high school- didn't have my period for 14 months and experienced lots of health problems. Now, 11 years later I am slightly overweight and am trying to be healthy without getting back into that bad place in my mind. People of all shapes and sizes can be beautiful, in fact all ARE, but many cover it up.

I am a high school teacher (I see beautiful girls getting breast implants, nose jobs, being promiscuous or dressing in a certain overly skimpy way to fit in, etc.) and a beauty advisor with Avon (I do makeovers and teach people how to be their most beautiful)

Personally, I hate seeing someone in something truly unflattering because I know how much better they could look (this goes for someone 100 lbs or 400 lbs) if they wore a different color or style bathing suit.

I also get upset seeing such young girls trying to show an overtly sexual image to the world because in my experience there are psychological and societal issues that that child has. When I see a 14 year old girl in a string/almost thong bikini, pregnant, trying to act "cool", I just want to go over to her, put a big sweatshirt on her and hug her and tell her she doesn't have to act that way- that her body and soul are beautiful and she should respect them, show the world she respects them and demand that respect from others.

I've never done this, btw, nor would I, just expressing the emotions I feel at seeing something like that.

As I said, I see nothing wrong with wearing a bikini while pregnant as long as it is flattering to the woman and she is comfortable.

I saw a trim and tanned woman well along in her pregnancy lounging by the pool at WL two years ago. She was wearing a bright orange bikini and looked fabulous! I wish my un-pregnant body had looked so good. I can't understand what the big deal is..

So you get to decide who's swimsuit is flattering and who's isn't?

I agree, alysa.

And lululoveDisney, I agree with you that the clothes we select to wear reflect greatly on our personalities and past experiences. And then again, so does how we judge what other folks are wearing. Strange how that all works, huh?

Very, very true. . . . everyday, every conversation, every interaction, every communication is comprised of people making statements and others interpreting them, back and forth. 90 % of communication is nonverbal (source: Psychology of Personal Relationships, one of my college classes) including things like clothing, body language, facial expressions, etc. Our interpretations are based on our own past experiences as well as personality, exactly what you said. not to mention culture and time period (what was acceptable in 1950 is different than 1890 and different than today).

It is certainly true in my case. I've seen how someone before a makeover thinks of themself in a certain, often negative way, but once they see the mistakes they were making in makeup fixed, their confidence level skyrockets! I wish *everyone* felt that happy about themselves! In fact, understanding makeup artistry and fashion is a huge part of what helped me to recover from when I was too thin. It increased my confidence.

The OP's response to a pregnant woman exposing her belly was "ewwwwww" that's NOT being unkind????

The thing is though there are a lot of people out there that don't care what others think. They wear what they want because they like it, it's as simple as that. I say more power to them!

I'm okay with it - I'm in fair shape and my sister said it to me (with love) when she asked me what I was wearing to a pool party at her place.
I don't come to these boards to quarrel - if I thought the original poster was being unkind I wouldn't have replied. Have a magical day.
