Pregnancy Board!!

@pp, if you are due May 24, you will be almost due at the beginning of May. I think maybe your post is incorrect? I would not travel far the last 4-5 weeks, but ask your Dr.

Hey all, I am currently 12 weeks pregnant, super excited to be almost into the 2nd trimester, we had a previous miscarriage in May. We have a trip planned for May when I should be around 29/30 weeks, so any and all advice would be much appreciated. My due date is May 24, if anyone else due around that time?

Maybe she meant her trip was in March?:confused3

I am 19w2d due 4/6. I have an anatomy ultrasound on Tuesday, but we are not finding out what we're having. We've done a surprise before with DD1, and comparing the two (finding out and not finding out), the surprise was a much cooler experience. I'm feeling pretty good right now, but I'm surprised at how tired my body already is at this point. I remember moving this slow at 35-40wks, not 19! DH and I are headed to Disney for our anniversary in a couple weeks, and I am so excited about our adult only trip.

Yeah, typo, I meant March, the week of the 11th. Oh yeah, there is no way I would be going in May lol

I am so excited that I found this thread. DH and I just found out last sunday that we are expecting our first! We are both very excited. My first Dr.'s appt is on Wednesday. Yay!

We actually have a trip planned for September 2012 with another family whose little boy's birthday we will be celebrating. I am very nervous about the trip because the baby will only be a out 2 months old. Any advice?

Been insanely busy with work over here!

I'll be 16 weeks on Thursday. Just did my 2nd trimester blood work today, I'll get the results on Dec. 1st at my next appointment. The doctor said he will do the anatomy scan then too, even though I will only be 18 weeks. But I am too excited! I can't wait to find out what we are having!!

Oh, I felt what I could swear were kicks the other day. I know it's early, but this is my second and they say you can feel it earlier with your second one. But I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me because I just want to feel this baby move so bad. I miss it!!

We had our first ultrasound today!

... and found out we're having twins. :scared1:

DH & I are scared s----less.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You'll do just fine. People do it all the time. Twins will be so much fun. It will just take an adjustment to get used to the idea!

I just got back from my midwife appointment today, I'm 15 weeks 3 days, and this is baby #4 for us. We have 3 little pirates, and would love a tinkerbell, but another pirate would be okay too. We just scheduled our ultrasound for Dec. 14th.

We just got back from a trip in September, when I was 8 weeks, and we are returning in February, and I'll be 27 weeks then. I have my own blog, just for fun, and my most recent post is about traveling while pregnant. I'm going to do another one after my February trip with any additional insights. Check it out if you have time.

Well, I had my first drs appt today. It went really well. I got a due date: July 12th. Yay! And I have my first ultrasound scheduled for next week! :lovestruc

I'm getting closer! 34.5 weeks now :) My sister had her DD a week ago so it's going to be fun with 2 babies when we visit each other :)

Hello all!

Hubby and I just confirmed with our doctor that we are pregnant with our first! I am estimating about 6 weeks along (will know for sure tomorrow when lab work comes back). We are so excited, but a bit nervous too, due to our ages (39 me and 41 him) and the fact that neither of us had children prior. We did have a miscarriage a year and a half ago at 10 weeks, so we are praying to make it through the first trimester.

Congratulations to all you future mommies out there! I am so looking forward to July (approximate due date for us)!

Hi All,

So last night I had my 1st ultrasound(going my my LMP, I 8 weeks 3 days). With my first son, I always went to a radiology(ultrasound) building, but with my new insurance they allow me to have ultrasounds at the doctors office. I was so excited about that for the convienence, but now I am not so sure. When I went in last night, I was a bit shocked to see a portable U/S machine instead of those big ones that I have seen with my last pregnancy. Anyway, The tech did the ultrasound and I am measuring a week smaller(7 weeks 3 days). I saw the heartbeat, which was 145bpm. She informed me to come back in 2 weeks to re-measure. Her first assumption was that I miss calculated the first day of my last period. That has to be impossible though because I was very adimit about keeping track of my periods with a driod app(haha technology) so I saw when I was ovulating etc. I even had notes when my husband and I "tried" so my dates have to be correct. Has anyone else measured less weeks from their ultrasound then from their first day of last period?

Rao,

First congratulations:goodvibes! Second - relax:surfweb:! : ) Third - I'd highly suggest not doing a ton of scans (ultrasounds). Doing them seems to have caused you a lot of stress - and doesn't change anything.

It's very common for babies to measure different sizes - it will push your DD back, but doesn't actually mean anything at this point. Even knowing dates exactly, isn't 'exact' if you took an OPK - that actually can give as much as 36 hours + before ovulation occurs. Then after fertilization you have so many days - up to 4 days - where implantation usually occurs after the 4th day or before the 10th day. Depending on your specific body it can equal almost a week different in dates. This is the number one reason they do early u/s - but after about week 8 an u/s shows different growth depending on the specific baby and doesn't actually have any bearing on 'progress'. Many US Drs will change DDs several times a pregnancy this is poor practice b/c many studies show it's not in the best interest of mom or babe. The other reason they do early u/s is because of bleeding - but if you aren't having any bleeding then just relax - in between 7-14 more weeks you'll start feeling the first little flutters, then a few weeks after that you'll gasp for breath in the middle of a a sentence as someone decides to kick you in the solar plexus - the hard way.

Also do some looking: max number of u/s a person should do is 2 in a pregnancy - there are many studies that show side effects for more u/s and some showing possible side effects for any u/s. I know standard practice in the US is to do a scan every couple week - but many studies show it doesn't give any information worth knowing, stresses mom out, and can lead to unnecessary interventions.

Studies clearly show that no matter whether mom or babe is high risk or not doing u/s is more likely to make the dr choose to intervene where the intervention causes complication that don't show up in the non-u/s group.

So doing u/s in the first tri to track growth will lead to them doing more in the second and third tri as well - and u/s are notoriously inaccurate for judging size - so a dr might say - opps slow growth big problem - when it turns out it isn't a problem at all when you have an 8 lbs baby at 32 weeks b/c the dr insisted un inducing you to 'save' your baby. (those numbers are an exaggeration at 32 weeks most 'healthy' babies are between 2-3 lbs)

Doing an u/s in 2 weeks can only cause more stress - which causes slow growth for baby - b/c moms stress hormones interfere with baby. So just relax and know that your baby had a good strong heart beat and statistically that by itself is a strong indicator that everything will be okay. Be healthy, avoid hot tubs, raw meats, alcohol and all the other stuff deemed to bad for pg women and your baby will grow to be a 5-12 (all normal weights) lbs bouncing baby something in no where near enough months to prepare for the upheaval in your sleep quantity. :lovestruc

Thanks so much for the reply(And the congratulations!). I am not going to ponder over this anymore. Your completely right, U/S can either be an amazing 15-20min seeing your little one on a screen or an incredible stress creater when you have a tech that isn't really explaining anything to you and basically leaves you hanging with a million horrible things running through your mind. From here on out it's happy thoughts...like taking my son and his new brother/sister to disney world next year :cloud9: :lovestruc !!! haha. Thanks again!

P.S. very jealous of you, I noticed on your ticker you are arriving in the world next week!!! Where are you staying?? Have a great trip!! :goodvibes

Quick question. I'm currently about 27 weeks along and after a nasty cold last week have developed an ear infection. Ugh. I was prescribed azithromycin and am wondering if anyone has any experience taking this drug while pregnant. My doctor said it was absolutely fine, but I'm really hesitant to take anything while pregnant. I also know this won't clear up on it's own. I trust my doctor, but am looking for others opinions.

Thanks!

Rao - NP :) It's so much better to be stress free. Which is why we're going to Disney! :teacher: We'll be at the Poly - our first time deluxe - I can hardly wait :cloud9:

It'll be our baits first trip and our big girls 4th trip for her 5th b-day! I can still hardly believe she's so big now  On our first trip she wasn't quite crawling, second she had a heck of a time climbing through the boneyard at AK, last trip A Bugs Life frightened her, and this trip she insists she's riding Dinosaur! :scared1: We'll wait and see how that goes - of course she's talking hypothetically - since the girls have no idea we're going.

Steves1bear - your Dr should tell you if there's a concern. When filling a prescription, it's always a good idea to let the pharmacist know you're pregnant and specifically ask if the medication is safe. They have a giant book about pregnancy and breastfeedig that tells whether drugs pass throughout he placenta or into breast milk - they also have an even larger book that lists the risk categories of pretty much every medication out there. I've had a miserable untreated sinus infection before - and an ear infection and they are horrible. Untreated can also lead to many different types of horrible side-effects that can cause permanent damage to you, and risk to your baby. If in doubt ask your dr. and the pharmacist.

Also the time when there is (typically) the most risk to an unborn baby is during the 1st tri. There are certain drugs that can cause problems in the second or third trimesters, but antibiotics of this magnitude don't fall into that category.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this or not but a website that gives basic info on medication safety is safefetus(dot)com it should never be used instead of dr advice, but it can help put your mind at ease.

This is our third. Both of my previous and they one as well all measured small by a week or two in the begining. They have changed my due date on all 3. I'm interested to see what happens this time.

My two previous came almost exactly on my original due date and not the moved date. I'm convinced I just have small measuring babies!

Thanks for sharing! That is great news! I sure hope the baby comes on the first due date as opposed to the "new" one.

Oh you will LOVE the Poly!! I just stayed there for my second time last month! Not sure what your room cat. is, but if you chose a garden view, may I suggest room number 1606-1607 in Samoa building. If faces the volcano pool, ground level, but their is no palm trees really blocking your view. I stayed in 1606 and my view was dead on to the waterfall.

That's so cute about you Daughter! My son is the same way, he is 2yr old. and has been to disney world 3 times. the first when her was 3 months, the second when he was 1, and obviously the third when he turned 2.

Enjoy!!!! Aloha! :cloud9:

We're standard. We figured no point upgrading since we're okay with walking, and we're also not in the room that often. But close to the pool would be really nice! The Poly's been a dream of ours for years and this year it got to the point where we just couldn't afford to go. We figured there'd be no trip this year - or next for that matter. Then we thought about it and decided we'd feel much happier about winter if we spent some time at WDW so we put the whole thing on credit! yikes! I'm feeling really anxious about that right now :rotfl: but it'll be so worth it to be close to MK, and being able to ride the monorail and having the beach (The forecast looks like the weathers getting cooler for next week :sad2:) but there are so many reasons why we're going to LOVE this trip. Next years trip will likely be back at a value resort. It'll be the last year we'll be able to fit into a non suite value room.

So this is your second? Our second little girl is such an awesome little girl - just full of...well everything lol vinegar, spunk, fire, laughter:lovestruc she has the biggest smile int he world! So far each baby we've added to our family has been easier to add than the previous.

But I am a bit nervous about the upcoming trip - as far as how the dynamics will be with 3 LOs
