Preferred View at Pop?

Do you feel it is worth paying an extra $96 to pay for the preferred view? What are the chances that if I just pay for a standard view that they upgrade us since we'll indicate this is our first trip and celebrating a birthday on our reservation? Our main goal is to be as close to the foodcourt/main building as possible. We do not want to be way out in the 80/90s building. Are there any standard views in the 50's or 70's building that are pretty close to the main hall? Any suggestions on what I should request? Thanks

It really isn't a View it's just location. There are plenty of Standard rooms that are just a few steps away from the Preferred rooms. In my opinion paying extra for Preferred is a waste of money. The 50's, 60's and 70's all have Standard rooms that are not that far from everything.

I agree with the PP. But if you really need to have a room close enough, then you will have to pay for it. I wouldn't expect anything just because it's someone's birthday. My thinking with Disney is - expect nothing but be happy if you get something.

Any room in the 50's, 60's, or 70's will be pretty close. We have stayed preferred twice there and the first time the location was perfect. The second time we were facing the pool and it was super loud all the time, but very close to the food court.

I guess my question is if you just pay for standard, will they grant your requests? I figured you would more than likely get your requests granted such as a particular building only if you pay extra for a preferred room.

Face it - Disney IS a business. If you're shelling out an extra $96 for preferred, then it seems only reasonable that they would help you first. If I did not pay the extra $96 - why should I get more than you?

It just makes sense.
