Preferred Pass Discounts?

Can anyone tell me a little more about the discounts that come with the Preferred Pass? I'm debating buying just 1 preferred pass to take advantage of the added benefits over the power pass...so far, I've figured $16 a day for parking.
What is the discount on merchandise and food? What places offer the discount and is anywhere at City Walk included?
And I know the Preferred Pass includes resort discounts - are they going to be any better than a FL Res discount? I know Disney's are usually exactly the same rates and availabilities.
Just trying to justify the extra $70 for a Preferred Pass.

Thanks!

If you don't care about HHN, preferred is definitely the way to go! Free parking amongst discounts in basically every store and inside eating location = mega savings, we certainly have saved plenty over the years.

Preferred is a %10 at stores, and depending on the product that can be QUITE substantial. Almost every store inside the parks and in City Walk participate, notice though I said ALMOST. We have had a few streaky instances with stores honoring/ especially the outside stands which "don't have the ability" but have honored it a few times. Don't ask me, just depends!

I wouldn't say the resort discounts are much better, if any, but again - you will save it on food and merchandise enough to justify the upgrade imo.

I would highly suggest the upgrade to preferred, imo - it is the best deal @ Universal.

Thanks for the information! Since the blackout dates aren't important to us and I think the kids are still too young for HHN, we will go with 3 power passes and 1 preferred to get the discounts. I imagine with parking plus the discounts, $70 pays for itself pretty fast.

So do you just show/swipe your pass at restaurants and stores to get the discount?
Also, if I had a guest coming with us, can I purchase discounted tickets for them? Is it also 10% off?

Thanks again...

Just let your waiter know you have an annual pass when you order so they can charge you properly...same at the stores. Just show the pass and you should be given the discount.

Passholders can purchase up to six additional tickets for guests. Single day tickets are 10% off and multiple day tickets are 15% off.

Perfect...thank you! Definitely sounds like at least 1 preferred pass would pay itself off quickly.

We're saving $90 on the nightly hotel rate at RPR with my AP in May - it already paid for itself with the savings when we went in August, so this is lagniappe. I'm SO glad I got the Preferred AP. If I hadn't, we wouldn't be making another trip this year :)

Thanks! If you lived out of state and wanted to stay onsite, it would definitely pay itself off. We live in FL and I think the AP rate and the FL Res rate are pretty similar, so I guess it would just give us another rate option if the dates/availability were different.

I had to LOL about "lagniappe"...we lived in Mandeville for almost 10 years and I use that term, but I always wonder if people outside of LA know what I'm talking about. :rotfl:

You now receive a resort discount with the power pass.. Just called to confirm. :cool1:

Yes, I called the annual pass line to confirm as well and it is true. No dining or merchandise discounts or free parking, though.

So glad to hear that we both received the same info! I was hoping!!!

We went ahead and purchased one preferred pass for the discounts and free parking. I have guests coming in and they'll be going to the park with us for 1 day. So is it 10% or 15% off a one-day, one-park ticket? Do I have to purchase them at the gate or is there a way to do it ahead of time?

Thanks!

I'm all the way out in WA, and the term is used here. When I was in college they organized a fall break trip for the upperclassmen, but kept the place secret as a surprise, as a lagniappe, for us. It was very fun!

The % off is from the gate price. You might be able to do better by just buying them through the website (which generally has a discount from gate price). Or from undercovertourist. Just do the math and see! (I used to always think it was better to buy online, but then Damo or macraven, I think, did the math more recently and found it wasn't an absolute)

you have to do the math to see which way you come out ahead on those tickets.

I have a friend that works in the Annual Pass department. Power Passholders get a 10% discount on multi-day tickets (2, 3 or 4). Preferred and Premier Passholders get a 15% discount on multi-day tickets. The 10% Discount for 1-Day Tickets on Preferred and Premier Passholders have been removed for 2014. As for pricing, it's based off the gate price. For example, Power Passholders get 10% off a 2-Day Park-to-Park Ticket. Online it's $175.99 per person. At the gate, it's $195.99 per person. They take 10% off of $195.99. Preferred and Premier Passholders take 15% off of the $195.99. Another thing to consider, you don't get discounts on the promotional tickets, i.e. Buy 2 Days, Get 3rd Day Free.

Strange, I just got an email from the Annual Pass Dept and it said one-day tickets are 10% off for passholders. :confused3

Either way, since it's off the gate price, I guess there may be a better way to go...I'll have to crunch some numbers tonight and see.

Thanks everyone!

Last I checked FL residents get 2 extra months when you purchase the preferred (with coke code, but usually they will just give it to you if you mention it). It would be 1 month with a power and 3 months with a premier. :)

Just bought my FL preferred tickers today with coke code and I got 3 extra months. The passes must be activated by April 30 in order for it to take effect

Thanks. We got an extra 3 months on the Preferred and 1 month on the Power Passes, so basically 13 months for us (Unless I want to go alone after everyone else's passes expire! Actually sounds kinda fun!) :rotfl:
