Preferred or Standard (ASMo)

For our upcoming trip, I booked a Standard room at ASMo because we are only staying 3 nights and I figured the walk couldn't be that bad. Now that I've done more research, I'm questioning if I should upgrade to Preferred. Is the walk quite long to the lobby from the Standard rooms? I know we will be walking tons at the parks. Will it take 15 minutes round-trip just to go to the cafe to refill our resort mugs?

What has your experience been...is "Preferred" worth the extra expense?

It was worth it for us because we wanted to be in the Toy Story section for our kids. We loved the location (Andy's room) and the theme. We were very close to the food court, but I think Fantasia section is even closer, which was where they put us first. I asked them to move us to TS.

Anyhow, if you aren't traveling with small children or don't care on the theme, I don't think it's all that far to go non preferred. The resort isn't that large. On our last trip to POP, we went standard (50's) and had that extra walk, but it was fine (even with 2 young children).

In our case, when we stayed at ASMo, it was the second half of a split stay, so it was only for 3 nights. We figured paying the extra for preferred was no biggie for that short amount of time. When we stayed at POP, that was for 10 nights so we decided to save money by going standard.

PS- I want to say our walk time when we stayed preferred was about 5 min to food court. At POP, it was about 10.

If you plan on keeping your standard room, I'd check out the ASMo page on allears.net and pull up the map. That way you can find a close standard building you'd prefer. After you decide, call Disney and add the request to your ressie. When you check in, ask where your room is and if its not a building u want, see if they can move you. Not guaranteed of course, but I've always had good luck with my requests.
