Preference for Anaheim DVC members in purchasing GCV?

Say it isn't so! After the Disney Cruise lines decided to favor non-customers with purchase rights BEFORE existing customers, I began to fear that something like this would happen!

It looks like old DVC members, some who have been supporting the DVC for up to 16 years, are going to be sent to the back of the line for GCV in order to let Anaheim purchasers get first crack at Grand Californian Villa point purchase!

Several posts have said that Anaheim purchasers were told that they would be given preference in purchasing ad ons at GCV.

If this is true, it stinks!

Rest assured that this is an idle rumor. My guide is in Anaheim, and she has heard nothing about this. Also, they want to sell what is in inventory now, not something that will not be on sale for a year. Why would they tell potential buyers this? This would only encourage buyers at DLR to put off the purchase until GCH goes on sale in a year. (Not what DVC wants)

Members will always get first choice at a new resort. Disney does not care who they sell to. If points sell out fast, they will not miss revenue opportunity, they will build another property at DLR. Even with all of the interest, 750,000 is a heck of alot of points.

I wonder if the guides were simply "selling" the current DVC policy of opening sales to existing members first, perhaps with slightly misleading phrasing (eg "If you purchase now, you'll get first crack at GCV").

Squidmo, I think you hit the nail on the head. They are telling buyers that if they buy points now at SSR or AKL, they will get first crack at the GCH points which is true, they will be existing DVC members, and as we all know, we get first crack at new resort sales.

I sure hope you're right squidmo and dwelty!

We were assigned a WDW guide when I requested info on-line prior to our purchasing DVC, since we're on the west coast it would be easier to have a guide in Anaheim due to the time difference.

I am well aware to take what anyone says with a grain of salt, but my Anaheim-based guide stated unequivocally that people who buy from DVC in California (in person or not) will have the first opportunity to purchase the GC DVC, ahead of non-California purchasers.

True or not, I can't say, but it was very definitive, not a "Buy AKV for first crack" type of statement.

If they wanted to, there would be an easy way to do it, too. All they have to do is license the resort sales in California only at first. As I understand it, that COULD be done, and with a small resort they might choose to do this to create the critical mass they want of California based and west coast based owners. Not saying they will, but it also would not shock me.

So did they say that members who made their initial purchase at DLR will get first crack or just members who do their add on at DLR will get first crack?

Just a thought, but maybe if the GC is offered to CA residents first, and the rest of the membership after, there is a possibility that the GC will nearly sell out before a public offering? That would create buzz, and a reason for building a second DVC at DLR.

I don't know if they will limit location or not but I suspect they'll sell to members before non members. And given the limited size, I suspect GCV will sell out to members and not make it to be available for those that are not currently members. And I suspect they'll have to be licensed in FL unless they set up a separate corporation in CA just for the DVC there.

It would be *very* odd for Disney to do such a thing. Locals have a huge demand preference for weekends. The last thing Disney wants is for GVC to be mostly owned by locals.

I hate to say " I told you so" but I told you so! "Stick it to the old members, theyll put up with anything. They're not going anywhere. Maybe we can make a few more bucks this way." :yay:

I understand your concern, but why would Disney make more money selling to CA members? I don't think they will make more selling to one group over another.
By the way, I asked my CA guide how many people she had on her waiting list for GCH. She said 8. This does not sound like a big number to me, and she has been in CA since DVC started selling out there.

The guide did not specify, but I was making an initial purchase. I would assume that any CA purchasers would be on the eligible list, if such a thing will exist.
