Prefered Room at CSR

I'm planning a vacation for my husband and I for May 18 thru June 1, 2013. I'm thinking we may stay at CSR, I'm attracted to the deluxe feel of the resort, although we have never been to this one. I originally planned to stay at the YC, but I fear the discounts will not be as good as in the past due to the Fantasyland expansion. My question is, what does the preferred room rate get you as far as a view? My husband loves water, so my first instinct is to reserve water view, but if the view is better with preferred, I'll go that route.

A preferred room just gets you closer to the main buildings, i.e the restaurants and gift shop. It doesn't get you a better view.

We stayed at CSR in March and had a water view room in Casitas 4. It is the first casitas building to not be preferred, so it is still fairly close to the main building. It ended up being a great location, nice and quiet, but close to the first bus stop and a quiet pool. If you want to go water view, I recommend this location.

You know, there's no actual "view" from the room. You have to exit your room to see anything, as there are no balconies. That's why we never ask for a "view" at a moderate. We do, however, ask for Casitas when we stay at CSR, because we like the ambiance in that section best.

Back before they were designated at Preferred rooms, I once had a room on the top floor of Casistas 2 facing the parking lot. What was bad was that I had paid extra for that room, because it was a King room. I couldn't believe they had put a King room way up there with a parking lot view. What made it even worse is that Casitas 2 is the only building that does not have an elevator. To get to that top floor, you had to walk all the way around to Casitas 3, use their elevator, then walk across the bridge/walkway over to Casitas 2, then walk all the way around that building to get to those rooms on the far end on the back side. The only other way to get to the room was to use the stairwell over by the quiet pool, walk up four flights, then walk across the end of the building and then down to the other side. The CM I spoke to asking if there was an easier way to get to those rooms told me that there wasn't and he didn't know why they designed that particular building that way, but that area is what the CM's call 'No Man's Land', because it's so hard to get to. I can't believe those rooms are now preferred rooms.
