Predictions on Construction in Parks in May? Vs. Sept?

I am really missing DL now.

We last visited the Parks in May, 2011, and my DH is thinking he would like to next go in Sept. since Cars Land will be up and running, crowds should be lower than summer, and - construction will be, or should be - nearly over, for California Adventure Park. He doesn't really enjoy the construction, all the boarded up areas, the walk thrus, etc. He longs for the days when nothing was being torn up, boarded up etc. I do too, but, in some ways I would rather go in May (suffering from serious Disneyland withdrawal here! :sad1:) If we went in May, we would probably be able to go again the following May, but not in September.

Here are some questions for you Disboard Disney experts...

1.) Crowds - Beginning May vs. beginning Sept. - I think comparable - I think Goth (Bats Day) falls on Sept. 6, and nothing in May that I can think of. I expect crowds might be similar.

2.) Rides down -We don't mind that in Sept. we would miss Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Christmas overlay, we have seen that before. Anyone have any clue about rides that would be down for either month?

3.) Temperature - Is it comparable in Sept. beginning, vs,. May beginning? I would think May would be warmer. Which really isn't an issue either way for this Canadian who lives up North.

4.) What might the parks look like in May, with the construction going on? I don't mind missing Cars Land this time around if we go in May, but I want to see California Adventure Park without boards all around main street. Any idea?

Thanks for any input from you guys, I appreciate it! :goodvibes:

DCA will still have massive construction walls until the new Buena Vista Street entrance is done. I am hoping that tomorrow Al Lutz of MiceAge will give an update on the schedule. I am confident Disney will do everything humanly possible to get everything done (Cars Land and BVS) by June. In May I would predict lots of walls - even more that in May 2011 but similar to now. These will come down as soon as CL and BVS is done.

Early Sept crowds will lilkely be much more than May in 2012 - later in Sept after Labor Day not so much.

Weather averages can be found here:

Thanks so much for your informative reply, and thanks for posting so quickly! I appreciate all of your info., and always take what you say in your posts into consideration. Your posts on the DISboards are always so helpful! :goodvibes

Carsland and Buena Vista Street are scheduled to open in May 2012, so I would say Sept. is better simply because the crowds will have died down a bit after the opening (not much, but a little bit helps). If I were you, I would plan to go at the end of summer, right before the Socal AP pass becomes unblocked.

May is usually sunny and pleasant. Sept is a toss up. It can be very comfortable, but can also be hot. We do not usually get rain in either month. Weatherwise, you're fairly safe with either month. If your choices are between May or Sept, I wouldn't let weather be an issue.

Everything I have seen to date say CL and BVS are scheduled for "summer". I have not seen anything that says May but have seen a few that say July or August. Just curious if you have seen anything that discusses May completion?

OP: This was almost exactly our situation. We usually go twice a year (May and Halloween for 10 days each). But we are skipping our May trip this year (and going to Universal Orlando instead) because of the whole CL situation.

We chose to go to DLR in Sept this year instead so we could see CL and not be in the summer rush. We will go sometime in mid-Sept. The weather should be perfect for us. May has been wonderful (low crowds, good weather), but it just doesn't make sense to go again until CL is open for us.

I think Screamin' was down this Sept. But that means that it won't be down again this year because it won't need a refurb so soon(?)

I think a CM fried of a Dis-er said they were on schedule for May target opening....but I take that as late May as in when they did the soft openings for Little Mermaid. And of course the winter weather still has plenty of time to push that back.

I think you're all way off-base. Summer 2012 will see the opening of Cars Land, and all of the APs who are blocked when it opens will flood the place for months after their passes become unblocked.

I'll say that DCA wil only become bearable after October or even November.

I know an imagineer working on Carthay Circle Theater who just last week went to a large project meeting and she said Disney's target is May and they are very much on schedule. May has not been published anywhere.

I hope your friend's info turns out to be more realistic! :)
