I was looking at a book that had pictures of Victorian times in it. It made me wonder, what will the country, and the world, be like in 100 years? Anybody venture to make guesses based on how things have changed in our times?
What do you think it will be like, In terms of :
Medicine
New technology
Education
Family life
Ages/lifespans
Politics/countries/wars
Style of clothing
Entertainment (movies tv music etc)
Social reform/new laws/changes in beliefs
Medicine... I think we'll have full body scans and blood tests at birth, for genetic dispositions to diseases as well as overall internal health. I do think we'll have a cure for cancer. I think we'll have affordable, safe x-ray technology that will be used for lots of things (I mean like full body scans that will be used commonly).
New technology - although it's not "new", I think holograms will be available for a lot of things (info at the mall, tv, movies, etc). Wireless everything. Ovens that cook for us when we're at work (that are refrigerators first, then turn to oven at a pre-set time). I think I've seen that already somewhere. Clothes washers will all be steam type. Maybe dishwashers too. Or the technology that cleans the toothbrushes now... I can't think of it... it's like a de-germer.
Education - this is hard. I see the homeschool movement (we homeschool) presently growing at a rapid rate. I see public school districts having no money... our local district was considering cutting out K. They took that idea off the table, but the fact it was even thought of was so surprising to me. BUT our district may go to 1/2 day K, (we've been full day K since before I was there, and I was in K there in 1973). I see teachers struggling and frustrated with the administration. I see learning styles being ignored in schools. I see us teaching things too early (ie - your baby can read - ugh!). I don't see us teaching kids how to think - just memorize facts. Not good. I hope we can learn to look around us and follow examples of more successful countries where education is concerned.
Family life - probably more spread out relatives than we have now, due to our world 'shrinking', transportation being easy. Probably close to the same otherwise.
Ages/lifespans - I think we're looking at things that are now shortening our lifespans (plastics - cancer, etc). Hopefully we'll figure out these things and our lifespans will again increase from the previous generations.
Politics/countries/wars - I hope we have a 3rd political party.
Clothing - it's gotten skimpier and skimpier - there's not much left to do. I'd assume fabrics will get 'better' (non wrinkle everything, lighter, warmer, thinner, etc).
that's all I can answer.
Good questions! Fun thread!
