He is incredibly lucky. Actually, this is his new car so he is really upset about it. ;) It is a 2007 that he has had less than a year. He was driving down the road and with the sun glare, it appeared that the small car in front of him was slowing down, but still moving. Apparently it was completely stopped and he knew that if he hit it, someone would be in critical condition if not dead. He made the choice to go to the right in a field however there was a guard rail and the chain fence there. He tried to go in between them since there was a utility pole there as well. He did the best he could and ended up hitting the fire hydrant and the chain fence. He was lucky not to hit the utility pole as the fire chief told him that it most certainly would have resulted in his death. So, we are very fortunate. We are not sure yet if the insurance company is going to definitely total the car or what but the dealership that we had it towed to said it is very extensive damage. THere may be total engine replacement as well. We will know for sure tomorrow.

I am totally stressed about this. More worried about him and how he will feel tomorrow and the day after when it all sets in. He has a strained shoulder and elbow from trying to lean over to avoid the shattering glass. He is on medications for his back so the doctors would not give him anything additional at this time. THey say that what he is taking for his back should help this pain but according to him right now, it hurts. :sad2:

i'm so sorry to hear about this :( please keep us updated.. it seems like when it rains it pours.. :(

Oh my gosh! I am so glad he's okay ~ what a blessing, thank god he's alright!!!!!

I hope he doesn't feel too bad as the days go on, but good job to him not hitting the pole, oh, he is so blessed to be alive!!!!

I hope he heals quickly , my thoughts are with you guys :grouphug:

We truly are blessed that he is alive. Many people have told us how lucky we are....the police, the fire department, the doctors, etc.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. :grouphug: Gotta love the people here on the DIS......:grouphug: :disrocks:

Yesterday was a blurr and I can't remember if I already posted (and I am too lazy to go back and read  ) that the insurance company confirmed that the car is totalled and that they are not going to repair it. :sad2: DH is really bummed about.

So today starts the great scooter debate. DH doesn't like to rent the scooter because he doesn't want to hear the comments about being the "large dude" on a scooter. Due to his disability at times he has a hard time walking by the end of the evening. I think he has a hard time accepting the disability. With the amount of pain that he is in right now, I cannot see him walking around Disney, especially in the heat and humidity. I am not sure how to handle this one but I just don't think that we should go wtihout being prepared. We have a blue parking pass for the disabled but most of the time he won't use that either. :confused3

Any suggestions on how to approach this one?

Sorry to hear about the car and the insurance :(

As for the scooter issue, I don't think he should care what anyone else thinks!!!

BUT, is you need a good incentive to get him to rent a scooter when he really needs one...tell him he won't have to wait in as many lines as usual:thumbsup2 Lots of rides accomodate the scooter, which is great, you just zip through them , and while you're waiting he can sit, and not add to his pain, but lots of rides, esp. in Fantasyland, with a scooter you just go up the exit and get on pretty much right away. Hopefully that will encourage him to do the right thing. Your family can come along too. My mom has her own scooter and we always get on the ride with her, and there is 6 of us total you know.

Just make sure to stop up front and guest relations, or whatever it's called, and tell them about his disability so they will give him a pass which you need on some of the rides to bypass the lines. The good thing about bypassing some lines is that you're finished with rides earlier than usual, and can go back to your room and rest :)

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the info! I am working on him but so far, no go. He has the registration for his disabled parking card that he can take with him. I am hoping that he will go and follow up with our family doctor or with his back specialist before we go. They may be able to give him some advice and maybe he will take it.

We passed by the accident scene this morning and I swear I saw him cringe a little. I didn't say anything to him. I had no idea how much damage one of those chains can do. It's incredible.

I also found out why the air bags did not deploy. The car was still moving and DH actually stopped it. It did not stop because of an impact so the forward motion of the vehicle kept the air bags from deploying. I am thankful that he did stop the car because had he not, he would have gone over the cliff and into Lake Erie.

Well, off to work I go.

tell himI said to stop being a knuckle head and fuc* what other say or think!! have a pinched nerve in my lower back from a car accident years ago and wish I could use a wheel chair or something else at times! his back will never ever get better if he continues to put unnecessary stress on it. tell him again that I said to take one for the team and just use the dang scooter! when we're at DAK i will gladly smack the shi* out of anyone who makes a comment. and yes I'm that girl so I am serious! so sorry you have to deal with this before the trip. So will insurance at least cover teh cost of a new car since it's considered totaled?

OMG, you are making me laugh and I truly need that today! :lmao: I agree with you however when I tell him he gives me grief. I am totally hoping that he will be better by then and that it will be a non issue.

Insurance is covering the cost of the car, the fire hydrant, the sign that he took out, and the dreaded deadly fence along with his medical costs. He's on the hunt now for a replacement vehicle. We have my car so we're not taking the rental.

On a brighter note..........10 days left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3:  :dance3: :dance3:

   For the 10 days!!!
And tell him to stop being a dunderheid and use the scooter if he needs to! It's a holiday, not a macho assault course!! He won't be the only one!
Men!!! :sad2: :sad2:
Our motto for this holiday is "you fall behind - you're left behind" - bit harsh I agree but it might motivate him! Once your back goes, it's a nightmare, he really doesn't want to make it worse!
Men!!!:sad1: :sad1:
My DH crashed his car last year (luckily, no injuries) but he wrote the car off as well - and it wasn't as badly damaged as yours!
Hopefully it'll all be plain sailing for you from now on! :grouphug:

Just finding your PTR - I am so sorry about the accident and loss of the new car! That is so scary, but thank God he's alright...

He told me that he's THINKING about it. I got the "we'll see" which is better than a complete, flat out "no." Glad to hear that your DH was not injured in his car accident.

I am trying to revise everything now so that we can avoid my usual "commando" style touring.

By the way, i LOVE your motto!!!!

Yay, a new reader! Welcome. :) Thank you for your kind words. The more I think about the whole situation the more I realize how fortunate we really are.

Ok, so I told DH what you said....word for word actually. He said that he will get one only if he needs it (so we are making progress). :dance3: THEN he said "I think I am going to like this person."  ;)

So I am now freaking about how to reduce my touring plans given this situation.

Yay, we're in single digits now! :woohoo:

Not much left to do except laminate my LGMH and our itinerary cards. DH still has to pack but I imagine he will wait until the night before we leave or the morning of.

I talked to my mom and found out that my sister got a letter from DNephew's school stating that parents are not permitted to take their kids out of school for vacation purposes and if they do, they are truant (spelling?) . I can see the school not wanting the kids to be taken out of school, but marking them truant and sending a truant officer out is insane. :scared1: She is going to go down there and let them know that we paid for this trip in advance, etc. and that was before he changed schools. He went to Jr. High this year and she had no idea when this trip was booked that they had this rule out there. He does his homework when we are gone and his other assignments. They also told her that they will not go back and re-teach him anything that he missed. I get that and understand but to mark him truant ... I don't get that. We have a cousin that is a superintendent of a school system here in Ohio and I am going to ask him if they do the same.

I am still calling Disney Dining in the hopes of moving one of my ADRs to an earlier time. So far, no luck but I will keep trying. They told me last time I called to try the day of if I can't get anything before I leave. Anyone else been trying to change their ADR's?

9 days!!! Wow, single digits!

That's awful about the school and their policy  I hope she can get it all worked out!

9 days...:goodvibes

He and you will like me.. i'm sassy.. i' can be overwhelming and obnoxious though lol but always lovable! i'm glad hes coming to his senses though!! and it's ok that you are reducing touring plans, now you'll just have to book a trip sometime sooner then later!

First of all, congrats on the single digits! (I'm only MILDLY jealous! :rotfl: )

Secondly, I've wondered this about our school districts seemingly constant harping of 'regular attendance'... I really wonder if they are somehow docked, either financially or otherwise by the state/district/etc. if a certain number of children aren't present a certain number of days...
